First rails went down today.



Most of the CMRy’s current roster is seen here. I have more than a dozen kits yet to build, paint, and decal.

The track is all in for the lower level.  Splicing the ME code 55 bridge track into the Peco pseudo-55 turned out to be remarkably easy.  Per your recommendations I simply ground away the lower web of the Peco rail and the joiners slip right on!

Now I'm just wiring everything up.  Plenty of feeders.  Plus all the sidings (the two parallel tracks and the three yard tracks) are powered independently using rocker switches on the front of the layout.  I'm running DC for this rather than DCC and the ability to store extra locomotives and whole trains during a show was a key design parameter.

Lower level track is all in and all wired (Peco code 55).  Two segments of Micro Engineering code 55 bridge track are spliced in where bridges will later be installed after the foam beneath is excavated.

Yep - that and burying the rail joiners that grip only the bottom piece of rail web in ballast are 2 big pluses of Peco code 55.

Wow, thanks for the tip!  Since I have an entire second loop to wire, I plan to try that!
