(For those who haven’t seen the video in the DCC Forum)

Drawing more inspiration from the animated world of DKS, I finally figured out a linkage mechanism to animate the rotating stop sign on my N scale Griswold signal from NJI. The crossing circuit is from Logic Rail Technologies and the sound unit is from ITT Products (sound is a little low in the video, sorry). A Circuitron Tortoise Machine is connected to the (surprisingly-simple) linkage system that I made from phosphor bronze wire and also the steel wire included with the Tortoise. The sign rotation speed can be adjusted and, while it’s a little slower that the prototype, I chose a speed where the Tortoise Machine is virtually silent…

Video filmed vertically on purpose. The stuff outside the frame on the side’s is not ready for Prime Time. ;)

Linkage system photo can be viewed on the following DCC forum thread…

I sent this antiquated grain truck off to the boneyard....

....and replaced it with a more modern truck -

It's basically a hack and slash job on a Con-Cor Kenworth tractor and a Shapeways grain box and chassis -

I also finished my grain elevator's office/scale building - the very last building on my plate for the "Hope" section of my layout, so woohoo!  :)

This thing has a lot going on and a lot of angles, so bear with me here....

Agreed! Incredible work, Mark! :o I honestly (honestly) had to look twice on a couple photos to make sure they weren't of the real thing.

    • Trying to model the BCR Fort St John BC (again)...while living in Australia (what could possibly go wrong?)

I applied the secondary layer of static grass over the base layer (which was quite brown) and I'm happy with the transformation.   The harvested hay fields are framed nicely and foreground green blends well with the backdrop.    A few bushes and small trees needed here and there to finish the scene but for now I think I will move on to some rolling stock projects for a change of pace.

Finally added some signs to the local bar, and nothing says cheap beer like Brew 102….and nothing says Cold War like a Fallout Shelter sign….

I drew up these decals long before anybody did an ONE container. I figured it was time to use them since it seems everybody has ONE's either available or scheduled. Same with the Schneider and Swift.

Tonight, I completed all patching and decaling on both sides of what is now officially Seaboard Central GP9 No. 1700:

Mark:  Great models, but I wouldn't be in any hurry to junk the old truck. A little dirt and rust, and it would look perfect parked off to one side of the elevator lot.  Even today there are trucks that old in farm use.
