Weekend Update 5/31/20

Nice work everyone! I have made some very slow progress on the Jack’s Mountain module, but the real highlight of the week train wise was a FaceTime call with my 6 year old niece Friday. She lives in MI and took a virtual field trip to the round house at Greenfield Village this week. She came home and wanted to “talk to Uncle Eric about his trains.” My sister-in-law texted me to let me know, which I was happy to do, but not really sure of what to expect. So in the meantime is set up “model railroad school” in the garage. First time I’ve connected my modules and I gotta say this freemo stuff is cool! Anyway when my niece called she had lots of questions about real trains and models. After she got her fill of my collection she showed me her LEGO model of Greenfield Village complete with roundhouse and turntable. Pretty impressive stuff for a 6 year old! I’m cautiously optimistic about the possibility of a model railroad buddy in the family!



And just to be safe, she was warned of the evils of that railroad with the cute multicolored kitten logo!

Really interested to see the vestibule opened up; I have done that on a Con-Cor coach but I am planning a work coach conversion from the FVM coach.

Added the MU stands to both and end stanchions to the SW8 -- next weekend - hand rails

Finally was able to get my Scale Model trains to run at the same pace.



And a little ground work completed.

I finished carving seams and cracks in the sidewalks, and glued these 0.080" thick styrene pieces to the 0.060" thick styrene used for the streets.  Paint applied:

Whoa. That's amazing.

I have spent the last couple of weeks making several dozen hay bales (a strangely relaxing process) and today they were finally placed in two fields, completing a scenic feature that I had been wanting to create for a long time.

On that steam tractor, there were some big ones built in England for hauling freight wagons.  They were commonly referred to as "road locomotives".

Aikorob:  Thank you!  I've seen small ones here in Kentucky, at "old time machinery" shows, but those are usually sitting, maybe powering a small sawmill or threshing machine.

1) Reworked my breakin/speed match loop.  Added a Digitrax BD4 to it and started to speed match locomitives.   
2) Ran locomotives that haven't been out of the box in many years
3) Continued to work on the layout ..
