I always wanted a nice backdrop to show off some of my rolling stock, and I think T-TRAK will work for me. Here's the plan!

20230 (SX248L), N Kato Unitrack, Left crossover 248mm.   3
20231 (SX248R), N Kato Unitrack, Right crossover 248mm.   3
20875 (S248PC), N Kato Unitrack, Straight (concrete) 248mm.   4

I will paint those concrete ties. I seem to remember the spacing on them being closer to C55.
I also ordered a quad module from CMR.

Hopefully I can order track soon. Maybe even look into used stuff.

Looks interesting (and fun), but to use it on a T-Trak layout won't you need another module (or two) on each end to get back to the standard T-Trak spacing and 2 lines?

Those are out of scope at this stage. Eventually, I will do transitions, but mostly for right now, I want something to shoot my stuff on that I can also run on.

That looks like about $10,000.00 in Kato track.  Come on stimulus check...  :P

That Unitrack may not work well for a lightly-used branchline, but I'd say if there was ever a tailor-made US-prototype use for it, the Pennsy mainline would be it.

OOH I forgot you did that. The turnouts may be tight (#4's) but it should be fine. If something derails because they are flying from track 1 to track 4, that's the user's fault. I remember @kelticsylk telling me about speed limits up there.

I suppose it depends on how fine your ballast is. I measure the relief of the tie surface above the plastic “ballast” at about 0.012”, and that’s at the end of the tie. The ties dip down in the middle as per prototype to almost flush with the cast ballast. IDK how big the Kato ballast granules are, but I think they would bury the tie. There just is not much relief.

I've done this once on a single and it wasn't too bad. Honestly, I like repetitive tasks where I can turn my brain off and grind it out, but the more I think of it...that was a 2 track single, hot a 4 track quadruple!

I will absolutely ballast. @Dave V how did you do yours? I have that ballast that @GaryHinshaw swears by. Would that be thin enough?
