Started the dock for the harbor scene. Piers are wood dowels.

Here's the completed dock. Additional layers of wood strip added to "bury" the ties, and paint. I started with a base coat of Rustoleum Camo Brown, followed by dry-brushing various shades of grey and tan to get the effect you see here. The retaining wall received the same paint method. I also painted the base-colors for the harbor water using craft paints.

I found this photo on textures.com, and really liked it. So, I mocked-up a building with it for ideas. This ended up becoming one of the actual buildings on the layout, and through the magic of photo-editing, I was able to create the main building simply by lifting portions of this building and creating an entirely new structure. BTW, "Rusty" is a donor mechanism for a 3D-printed GE 23-ton Box Cab locomotive.

I'll be using this Snail batter-operated PWM controller for the layout. It works perfectly for this application.

Wow way to get started. Seen someone else on FB using that trackplan so I guess they got it from the same place.
What type of loco will you be running?

Progress on the two buildings... The large, main building is make from photo-shopping pieces from the smaller "Wood Bros" building photo!

Lol! Rusty will eventually become a GE 23-ton Box Cab. It'll use that or a MiniTrains Gmeinder or Plymouth for Motive power.

Here's the back half of the layout. The main building is sliced by the backdrop to create two distinct scenes. The turntable allows movement between the two scenes and also acts as a runaround track.

For the "digitally-operated, optically-indexed" (i.e hand-and-eye) turntable to function, there's a hand-sized opening on the end of the main building to allow operation of the turntable.

A 40-year-old Alexander Models Brownhoist Crane kit scored on eBay will be perfect for the "raw-material" side of the layout. I just completed the assembly, and the Krystal Klear windows aren't quite dry yet.
