The waterfall effect is stunning. Never again will I be able to appreciate static silicone waterfalls regardless of how well done they may be.

When I was a kid... no wait, I still do that. HO, 28x32, double deck, 1969, RailPro

DKS, whenever you have a new animation I really enjoy showing it to my wife who's a bit of a gadget-head herself...she appreciates them as much as I do.

If you would be living in Germany, you should work for the Miniatur Wunderland!

Thank you all so much. @keeper I would very much like to work (or, more accurately, to have worked) for Miniatur Wunderland. Although I know that doing what one enjoys as a job takes much of the fun out of it, I suspect I could deal with it.

@Dave V I regret I'm reaching the bottom of my barrel of things to animate--I hate to disappoint, but I really only have one project left. The layout is getting very full!

I don’t know if it would be possible to model a “natural” waterfall in this manner due to the lack of side walls to frame the waterfall and hide the edge of the mechanism. However, I’m pretty sure that if it’s possible at all, DKS could do it.

Oh, I had plans to do just that. I didn't bother worrying about it this time since I was modeling a spillway, which made my life much easier.

Question for the mods, is this thread a “best of” yet, and if not, why not? This is a college education in creating animation effects.

I wonder if, instead, since this thread is really about the layout more than animation, add an "Animation" subforum to Weathering, Detailing, and Scratchbuilding. I'd be happy to break out all of the animations into individual topics. Besides, I'm not the only one doing this--for example, there's @randgust excellent Jamison T-trak module ( https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=50186.msg675175#msg675175 ) and @tehachapifan NJI's Griswold Crossing Signal (https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=49690.msg667826#msg667826 ) Consolidating animation in one place might help inspire others to try things.

So I've been getting emails from people about animation. Some are asking for more! So I dug up the list of effects I'd planned for the Black River & Western, and tossed in a few from the old White River and Northern IV, to see if there were any viable ideas.

Window Fan -- done
Car On a Lift -- done
Train Layout In Window -- done
Forklift -- no appropriate place for it
Roll-Up Door -- sort of done; the combine baggage door is like a roll-up on its side
Playground Equipment -- no room
Excavator -- no room
Dump Truck -- a vague possibility, not sure where to put it
Car On Flatbed Tow Truck -- wrong era
Chain-link Fence Gate -- no room
Grade Crossing Gates -- done
Windmill -- inappropriate for a mountain region
Cement Truck -- a vague possibility
Flea Market -- no room
Turbine Vents -- done
Airport Searchlight in Distance -- inappropriate for a mountain region
Intersection Flasher -- no room
Traffic Light -- no room
Grade Crossing Flashers -- done
Wedding Party Photographers -- no room
Theater Marquee -- no room
Drive-In Theater -- no room
Highway Message Sign -- wrong era
Fireworks Display -- thought about it, probably won't do it
Accident Scene with Police Cars -- did the police car, don't need the accident
Spinning Gas Station Sign -- too much
Fireflies -- done
Campfire -- done
Blinking O-P-E-N Sign -- a possibility, just not keen on too much blinky stuff
Barber Pole -- done
Chaser Light Sign -- a possibility, but I think it's too much
TV Repair Shop or Appliance Dealer -- no room, unless I change an existing store

Anyone have suggestions?

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."
