I have made a window neon sign similar to  that.  Scribed the logo on some 0.010 clear styrene, painted the bottom and side edges black, and lit the top edge with an LED (hidden in the ceiling).  For multi-colored sign (I contemplated that) I would just stack more clear layers - one for each color.

Interesting that we chose the same building for a bar...

OK, so, disclaimer: This is all @VonRyan 's fault. I'd just finished the box fans for the hardware store, and with tongue firmly planted in cheek, he dryly remarked, "OK, so now I want to see you make a working desk fan. That oscillates." Thinking I'd just give him the finger, he instead saw me start to stare out into space, going, "Hmmm..."

Feels a little large for a desk fan, but it looks pretty dead on for a wall mounted unit.

I know, a pharmacy re-purposed as a bar. It is interesting, but the choice was not mine.

This building was assembled and located in highly visible location on a friend's layout.  He asked me if I could detail the interior of that store front. He said he would like it to be a bar, and gave me the building to take home.

I was originally going to board up the large windows just like you did, but that would have hidden the complete interior, including a pool table and couple of hookers.  I have seen 1:1 bars with large windows, so I kept them uncovered.  I had a write up about it on the A-board, but that is gone.  Maybe someday I'll create a new thread about it here.

DKW,  I don't know what to say.  Now if you come up with a cage around the fan blades, I'll cut my Sherline lathe into little pieces and eat it!  Um, forget it, I'm not taking that bet - I would lose!!

Actually, although the motor is a bit large (8" x 16"), at 16" the fan blades are in the ballpark. Anyway, this was just a proof-of-concept assembly to see if the principle worked; there may be a next-gen device that's a bit smaller. Plus, I think once it's mounted on a base, painted black and sitting on a desk, it should be more believable. I'd like to pose it next to a green glass banker's lamp...

Wow!  Thank you DKS!  You being inspired by my modeling is the highest praise I have ever received.  I don't know if you recall when I contacted you years ago, through your "White River" website  (before knowing you on any forums) to let you know that I was amazed with your fine modeling skills, especially your animated and illuminated barber pole (your first one).  You impressed, and inspired the heck out of me.

And after this praise I'm thinking I might even do an article about my bar, and submit it to the N Scale Railroading magazine (since it is now online).

Sure, I know that you are DKS, but you know me and typos . . .    At least you will never see any auto-correct mistakes.  DKW was a German car make (which I believe became part of Audi). 

I can't wait to see what you conjure up for the fan cage, but even if that doesn't work out, your table fan will be one of your finest microscopic modeling accomplishments.  I would love to see dem34 show us his version.

And yes, people will eat anything to get in the record books. That reminds me of when Klinger on M.A.S.H. tried to eat a Jeep!
