Thanks Kelley.
My only book on DCC is a Kalmbach book that has been out for many years, and it was not very precise on use for car lighting, especially for anything not HO.  I am just getting involved with DCC, and am at a point where I feel confident installing and programming decoders, but want to be sure that other things in the train do not cause problems.  This new "version 2" sounds like it addresses several issues for me- fully DCC compatible, low power consumption, color appropriate to early streamliners and also heavyweights, and low heat so as not to damage the models.

So, on the list, but come after some ATSF models and a bunch of single window coaches.

FYI -
Kato may have a few extra BM70m from cancellations.  I was able to order 2 today.  Call or email Kato USA.

The Kato BM70m trucks are the same PRR three axle passenger car trucks as the Micro Trains heavyweight diner trucks, which are available separately.  I believe that the Kato trucks have a centered bolster, and the Micro Trains truck is an offset bolster.

And I believe they are powered trucks, too.

Thanks for info about the warmer LEDs -- I really would like to try them out instead of the haphazard way I'm trying to get that warm light glow now.

How much offset is on the MT truck? Looking to place the Kato truck under the MT diner.

That would be incorrect.  The MT diner trucks are proto- unless you have a unique image supporting the Kato trucks or are looking to power the car?

Judd - Both the Kato BM70m truck and the MTL D78 diner truck are of the same prototype PRR 3D-P1 (or similar variations).  The MTL offset is enough that you will need to create a new bolster if you want to use it on the BM70m.  But why would you?  Lighting?

Thanks for the tip Doug!  I just called and ordered 2.  They thought they had 5 left.

I called earlier and the woman said they were showing only 2 left and didn't want to sell me any until all orders are filled.  She said to call back next week.

I received my spare BM70 this past Saturday. It came in four pieces but they snapped together easily.

My 2 BM70's should be in the mail since my credit card was finally charged for the sale, almost a week after I ordered them.
