Atlas vs Micro Trains 3 Bays

Could someone please post some direct comparison shots of the Atlas 90 Ton vs the Micro Trains 100 ton hopper? I know that the Atlas car is based of the N&W H-11A, but I’m not sure of the MT prototype.

I am pretty sure both the Atlas "90 ton" (it's really a 100 ton car) and the MT 100 ton hopper are based on the N&W H11a/b/c/d/e design.

There was a discussion about this years ago when the MTL hopper was new, but that was probably on the old Atlas forum.

While they may both be based on the H11 series, it seems like the slope sheets and end panels are different. Those Atlas cars look really good with the improvements you’ve made!

Those converted trucks would be a nice addition to n scale aswell...

The MTL model, which is at least 25 years newer, has done the slope sheets angle better.

Ryan:  Makes sense, the trucks are right, but the body isn't!  That car isn't available in N scale, is it?  The MDC/Athearn 70-ton 3-bay has too few ribs, and the Atlas PS has too many.

And I'll agree with the others.  Roller bearing conversions were very common in the 60s and 70s, and an N scale version would be most welcome.

The MTL car is a superior model to the Atlas car IMHO.  What it really needs is a recessed offset bolster 100 ton truck to lower it a little, and they would be almost perfect (body mount 1015’s too).  Every time I see MTL at a show, I keep asking about these trucks since they were mentioned several years ago, and I keep getting no timeline.  I tried Trainworx offset bolster 100 ton trucks (not recessed) on these, and they did not approve the appearance at all.  Thanks.

Absolutely! But, in the case of the N&W lettering, the Atlas car is much more accurate (MTL used the wrong version of the "hamburger" logo).

From an operations stand point, I prefer the Micro-Trains car over the Atlas car. The MTL car has full interior detail, whereas the Atlas car has a round metal weight running lengthwise in the middle of the car. Removing the coal load on the Atlas car spoils the appearance of the car.

However, for building a long coal train, I'll take $12 a car and some weathering over $25 a car and still be fussing about the ride height.
