Photon Z Wobble Upgrade

Has anyone tried one of these:

https://jacksonproducts.net/shop?olsPage=products%2Ftwin-rail-z-slide-upgrade-for-standard-anycubic-photon-3d-resin-dlp-lcd-printer

I printed some bridge abutments and I definitely have some wobble.

I tried some Krylon textured paint but the texture is too course.  I need 4 arches anyway so need to print some more.  The wobble could kind of represent concrete pour lines.

Will look forward to your report.

Yes, there's clearly wobble on your print.  But as you say, representing form variation I think you've actually achieved quite a unique bit of realism!

Just wondering if you tried to tighten the play first?

Or was there no play?

Wasn't this upgrade evaluated in one of the other Photon threads here, and the consensus was that if all the screws were properly tightened the upgrade was not needed?

When I was having leveling problems I took my slider apart to see if was loose. It was pretty gight so I put it back together.

Anycubic has a video on YouTube that explains how to fix z wobble....

The way his prints are it almost looks like the lead screw is bent.

I did the anycubic fix but it didn't help.  The thing I like about this upgrade is it just bolts in with no alterations to the printer.  You are just swapping the z rail.

I emailed the guy and he said if the undulations are 2mm apart, it is the pitch of the screw and this upgrade should fix it.  We'll see.

The photon s has dual rails so this upgrade is probably a good idea.

Been seeing a bunch of prints with the dual rail upgrade and it looks hands down worth it.  I plan on getting it for mine shortly.

I received the upgrade in about a week from England.  Very impressive.

I printed a .5" cube, then I installed the upgrade and then printed the same cube again.

As you can see, the wobble is gone.  So far so good.  At this point I would definitely recommend this upgrade if you have a z-wobble issue.

Excellent. Thank you for the report. I've not printed anything large yet, so don't know the wobble as an issue. I should probably print a test column to see where I stand. Did you print those direct on the platform or did you use supports?

Directly on the platform.  That's why the bottoms are mushroomed.

Just ordered one of these upgrades myself...  Crossed fingers that it solves the issue I have too, which looks a lot like the issue you have.

To prevent "mushrooming" when printing directly on the build plate, lower the number of base layers to 5, and the exposure time to 25 seconds or so (Elegoo grey) an this should solve your mushrooming issue.  However, you have to have a good cross section to the bottom of your part for it to stick properly.
