MTH Allegheny - LokSound Conversion

Hi,

Has anybody converted a MTH Allegheny to Loksound DCC?

This loco keeps blowing its MTH Decoder, and I can't work out why.  MTH have already replaced parts at great expense and its happened again.  Normally I would simply drop in a Loksound and be done with it but the MTH have a totally different wiring system.  I can strip it all out, just wondered if its been done before?

Cheers,

James

James,

I'd repost this over in the DCC and electronics forum, more likely to be seen by someone that could answer your questions.

There's a prototype for everything.
If you can't make it perfect, make it adjustable.
DCC is not plug-n-play.

I installed a Tsunami in one of their K4s. I managed to get everything working acceptably, except the smoke unit. I couldn't get it to chuff smoke, though I didn't really try very hard. You could use a Loksound decoder in the same manner, using the functions for cab lights, markers, and headlights. A pair of wires to and from a plug to the tender-mounted speakers would bypass the "junk" in the multi-use drawbar. I removed the electronics, and put the decoder inside the boiler.
