@reinhardtjh @Mark5 Here you go, folks! A how-to on body-mounting MT1016's to the BLI P70's. Photos are all in the gallery, too.

Are these any better than the Bachmann cars? We need a side-by-side!
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

The lighting is not only excessively bright, but even when dimmed down with a DC throttle, is toylike. The three leds create “hot spots” clustering in the middle of the car. The light tapers off toward the end of the car.
I’m a fan of the lighting effect of Rapido’s Easy-Peasey sets,  but not of the need to replace batteries.  I wonder if the track pickup in these cars could be rigged to power the E-P units. The reed switch would be a bonus.

Would it have been too difficult for BLI to either provide additional couplers with shorter shanks, or just provide another hole farther-in to relocate the long shank coupler to provide closer coupling?  Chris went to a lot of effort (plus some expense) to do something that BLI could probably have provided for pennies.

Need help from some knowledgeable Pennsy passenger peeps. Are these cars air conditioned or non a/c? The photo is from Chicago commuter service in the 1960's. Would the lettering be gold or buff? Trying to decide what cars I need to buy for this.

Yes then can be modified to run off of the track voltage (and with no-flicker), have adjustable brightness, and still use the wand to turn them on and off.  I'm working on an article explaining how to do all of that.  One of these days . . .

I’m not very knowledgeable, but would air conditioned cars have windows that open?

The photo also suggests a general question: Has anyone here modeled open windows on passenger cars?

Not sure about American prototype cars, but many models of European passenger cars are made with some windows modeled partially open.
On a related note, the 40+ year old Rowa/Con-Cor/MRC corrugated cars have partially lowered Venetian blinds molded in the window glass (and the effect is very good).

The three-digit roadnumbers would indicate non-A/C cars and the change from gold to buff lettering occurred in the early '50s.

The large water tanks are under the cars but the ice bunkers are not, so no A/C.

The lights don't flicker.  That's an additional positive.

The HO cars have a 1,000μF capacitor included in the lighting circuit.
Presumably something similar was done with the N scale version.

You guys piqued my curiosity - I just ordered one of these cars.

So,  now all the manufacturers know that they need to include a "flaw" in their products to successfully market to Peteski when he has no interest in their cars' prototypes.  [:P]
