Kato UP Employee Pride pre-orders

Saw a flyer at Papa Ben’s this afternoon in Houston, and received an email about it late last week. They are taking good pre-orders only and the total number will either green-light production or not. No data up yet on Kato’s website.

Will be available in the usual DC, DCC, and DCC sound.

How many people are going to admit they preordered a Kato N scale version or the Athearn HO scale version with the stigma that has been stuck on the unit. I'm guessing it will be no different than the people that couldn't stand George HW Bush, but own a 4141, or thought the 1943 was ugly but own one of those as well.

Reminds me of the "We Will Deliver... Pay Cuts" hopper that set off the UP licensing debacle...  :D

And to add to the cynicism, what about "1111", a/k/a "Four Aces"? A subliminal reference to "a winning hand"? Really?

Technically it’s supposed to be “The locomotive's number – 1111 -- represents Union Pacific's goal to be the No. 1 railroad with the No. 1 employees who have the No. 1 safety dedication with 1 vision – Building America.”

But all in all, a winning hand.

Yikes. Thanks, I think. What marketing wiz-kid came up with that one? Getting a little bit of time-warp whiplash here from the 1980's-ish contrived corporate-babble.  :facepalm:

Right up there with "We Will Deliver".

I’ve always wondered about the meaning/tone/connotations  of “We Will Deliver”
It’s a bit vague and open to all sorts of interpretations.
Is it we will deliver in an affirmative tone
Or we will deliver, meaning maybe late but eventually
Etc etc

Yeah, it's really awkward. Note that the CEO behind this slogan was short-lived, running the company for all of 15 months. Coming from Exxon, Burns was the penultimate not-a-railroader CEO, not knowing squat about the industry. Sort of like Mr. Pepsi - John Sculley - running Apple into the ground. But at least Mr. Burns was pushed out before doing too much damage, finding a better livelihood on The Simpsons.

We will deliver??? On time? Next week? Whenever the hell we feel like it? Whatever the hell you do or do not need? Not what you ordered?

The list could go on and on.

I always assumed it was in response to the meltdown that ensued from the merger with SP. But the dates on UtahRails point to it being a slogan before the meltdown occurred. I always remember seeing the slogan on cars after the meltdown so I figured it was in response to that. We Will eventually Deliver after massive delays.

Well we all know that back in the 1970's and early '80's the following applied:

SP = Sufferin Pathetic

UP = Unlimited Parking

I dealt with both of these railroads in my job duties and can confirm that these were very accurate. The comment made above about what year they would deliver sort of fits.
