Helped a buddy spread fill dirt. Took it from the fresh area to the right and filled in the area to the top left. Got to use side dump and bottom dump cars. Got a nice sun burn

With a line up of locos on the shelf waiting to be finished (mainly just waiting to be painted) I started on GMTX 3304, a SD40-2 rebuilt to a SD38-2.

Not much to show, because all of the work today was under the hood of Seaboard System GP40-2 No. 6614.  A while back I gutted this HO scale Athearn Geep by upgrading it to an ESU decoder with sound.  I used a TCS motherboard for the solder connections and plugged in the 21-pin ESU LokSound decoder.

Today, I finally installed the front and rear headlights.  I replaced the Athearn incandescent bulbs with LEDs and clear headlight lens.  I had a lot of trouble, most of it self-inflicted, e.g., figuring out where to make the solder connections on the motherboard without frying LEDs, remapping the headlights because the use of LEDs required me to use AUX1 and AUX2 rather than F0F and F0R for the solder pads on the motherboard, and keeping the wires out of the driveline but allowing the shell to be seated.  That low headlight was not easy to deal with.  No exaggeration, I pulled the shell (which requires removing the couplers) a dozen times this afternoon.  Ugh.  But, it's finally running quietly with working directional (and dimmable!) headlights.  I still need to install the Gyra Light in the cab headlight between the numberboards, but that will need to wait for another day (I also need to confirm the Gyra Light's use by the mid-1980s anyway).  The decoder is already remapped for the Gyra Light, but I have logistics such as wiring through the detailed cab.  As it stands now, the shell can be pulled and the LEDs remain attached to the frame with nothing attached to the shell.

I'm enjoying this Geep paired with the transfer caboose (SBD No. 11111).  Both are former Family Lines but now patched for the Seaboard System.  This provides variety to the fleet and some history.

Almost done with my New England church
 





I made the storage shed in back from the excess material of the kit. There's a small etched-brass cross yet to attach to the steeple, and I've got to build a short porch and steps for the back door out of styrene stock. There's going to be a small graveyard behind this, on ground sloping down from the back of the church. .  That part of the roof is floating because I haven't decided if I'm finished with interior or not (add details?)

The best part I like is the "stained glass" windows



But I had to cut holes in the backdrop to let the light through (the church side is flush against the backdrop). When the layout lighting is up, the color is subtly noticeable. I didn't want a light inside because that would have been TOO noticeable.

The basic kit is the Blair Line church.

Has to be a cross. I found I could make one out an etched-metal handrail. First it's suitably sized and second being brass means it's sorta gold colored. Very tiny detail but obvious once it's placed -- your eye is automatically drawn up to the top of the spire so it gets noticed.
