Woodland Scenics Deep Pour Water

I've got a pond that you do NOT want to fall into on my chemical plant TTRAK modules.

I'm looking for a quick and easy way to fill it with water.

I'm thinking the Woodland Scenics Deep Pour Water stuff is the way to go, especially since MB Klein has a 10% off scenery sale going.

Who's used it? Does it do the job? Is it easy enough to work with?

I believe Luke Towan has used it in his dioramas with amazing (imo) results. May want to check his YouTube.

Didn't we have a discussion back when Deep Pour was new that it was particularly exothermic? I would be concerned about direct contact with any foam base material.

Ed, I used it on my Grand Trunk Southern.  It is simple and straightforward to use with excellent results.  The only advice I would give is to follow the instructions to the letter.  I don't recall where I saw that advice, either the Woodland Scenics video on the product, or on the thread here on Railwire where someone used it and gave that advice.  Either way, I listened, followed the instructions to the letter and experienced no issues.  I am experiencing some computer issues and I am busy offloading all my files onto an external hard drive, otherwise I would post some photos, maybe tomorrow.

Deeper in the thread it was mentioned the WS instructions were explicit about using over plaster. Conjecture was lesser materials such as foam might have problems with the heat; I agree.

As an alternative to consider--one that's potentially faster and cheaper--is to apply gloss medium over a flat surface painted with acrylics.

Yep. Was gonna do that on the old layout. This time, however, I don't have a flat surface to work with.

Also, thanks all for the info about the heat. I plan on laying down some spackling and then a nice heavy layer of grout above it, so I think I'll be ok.

If you need to pour something, try plaster.

I can see doing the deep pour, but only if you're going to embed some kind of creeping thing in the murky waters...
We've done a couple of acrylic pour projects (clock faces, table tops, etc) and you can get the clear acrylic stuff at Michaels pretty reasonably, especially if you have their app on your phone and use the 50% off coupons that magically appear there.

I suspect it's the same stuff Woodland Scenics sells, only it's not in the new improved Jewel Box, and is actually a full bottle...

Very easy to tint, and it's usually set up in 12 hours or so for a reasonable coat.  Highly recommended.

Also, if you just need to square up your creek bed to use the quick and easy DKS method, you can carve a piece of 2" foam scrap to fill the void to a flat surface and caulk it in before you paint/apply clear coat. 

I used 1/2" foam for a similar purpose to raise the creek bed in Cumberland...


Once I got the colors worked out, the simple paint and Mod Podge worked to great effect...

Well, I've ordered the WS stuff. I'll be picking it up Monday (or maybe Saturday, we'll see...).

And yes, I'm planning on including some junk. Definitely some tires and a shopping cart or two (I just ordered those too).

Um, if large amount (deep pour) of the resin gives out lots of heat, why not fill the area in several shallower pours?  Who says it hast be be done all at once?  And you can add different amounts of tint in each layer (darkest on the bottom layers) to make the water look even deeper.
