So it begins i built the 1st of several modules this is #1 for the Staging section it's 29"X48" of my tri-level modular layout.

1st level staging.
2nd level Rural/Country
3rd level Mountains.

Before getting to far this will be built in a space of 7'X11' already plotted this on paper so know it'll work as i plan on running SD40/45 & -2 versions along with GE U&C boats + 89' flats/racks as my largest cars.

Largest radius will either be 20"-22" mainlines on a 2% grade for the previous equipment size,  my era is set in the fall of 1979 when there were still some F unit's running around.

My Proto-Freelanced road will be based off several power rosters when I decide which direction I'm going.

There will be no high hood for the era I'm modeling is in the fall of 1979.

Nope don't have the track plan yet per se i have most of the cardboard mock-ups for the buildings just have to wait to see what i actually have for space as i look at these towns.

Also level 2 is my equivalent of small town USA the town will be named after a good bloke i know down under it's going to be called Andrewsburg

Level one will just be open staging with many tracks.

Level 2 will have that rural town look with the mainline running along the back, and behind some small-town usa houses/trailer homes and local businesses to be scratchbuilt then main street.

On the other side of main street will be a smaller walthers grain elevator with loading and empty tracks that will hold 20-24  cars between the 2 tracks,  a small lumber yard that'll receive 2-3 cars of lumber that includes a short stretch of street running.

Then a small Cold Storage facility that'll have 2 tracks holding 10-12 cars, a team track for open air unloading with an overhead crane, dock and ramps.

Level 3 will represent somewhere in the USA .

Kinda shooting from the hip as this layout build progresses.

Ok Vince:   sounds a little like my concept " shot from the hip ", I'm doing the NP across the cascades from Tacoma to Yakima.  It would be double deck and use a "cough" "cough" Helix to change levels .
I know you said radius of 28 or 30 inches, but do you mean 14 inch and 15 inch ??   I am using 15 and 16 inch as my rough rule. 
i'm still waiting to build the train room, so you're  head of me.   Keep posting

One of out NTRAK club members had a 12' module called "bridges and canyons".  I think that counting the NTRAK "community" tracks, it has 4 levels.  Or is it 5? I lost count.    Always a  big hit at the shows.

Thanks for checking in as for the radius yes i'm going with the larger curves on the mainline smaller radius elsewhere.

Former BN railrat back in the 90's fun job cleaned up many a grounded car or engine.

Well that's the idea Ed well see how it goes as this layout build progresses.

On hold at the moment as have to wait to get funds to get some more lumber & a foam sheet for progress.

Do have the legs & supports figured out now just to real world it and hope it works lol.

2nd no track plan i've always built from my mind what little there is of it hehehehehe.

I lay my rail ideas on paper as I build each section so I know kinda where the rail will flow like the prototypes.

I know no rhyme or reason but it's worked on all my previous modules.

Oh man, reminds me of Lee Monaco's "deep" modules with Philly NTRAK back when she was married to her first husband, Bud. They were interesting in that there was the "top" part that was a normal NTRAK module but they built inserts that went all the way to the floor. I think they did one that was a mine, another was space themed, you know, typical Lee stuff!

Never really my cup of tea but she always had a lot of fun.

Nope. This Lee was the Lee Monaco who later became Lee Monaco-Fitzgerald after she married Jim Fitzgerald of NTRAK fame and who later went on to champion TTRAK in America.
