I think what you’re seeing is the top of the railing not square with the pilot.

Did you orient them bookcase style?

They were laid flat, side-by-side. After being wrapped in Kapton tape, they laid flat in the bottom of the cab, and the speaker sat on top of them. I wrapped the cap with black electrical tape, so they wouldn't be visible through the cab windows. I had filed the chassis flush with the worm gear cover in hopes that the 9x16 would fit, but it didn't. It looks like there's enough room with the 8x12 that this wouldn't be required.
