My Saturday began with an early morning ferry trip to the island to visit with Jeff Briggs, and a gorgeous sunrise over the Strait of Georgia:




I dropped off my Jordan Spreader for painting, and received some 3D printed parts for my RS-3 project, and some new cars to add to the freight car fleet.  First up is a second PGE chip car, PGE 9797, and sister car PGE 9778 which received some minor repairs:





Next, five U.S. road box cars including Great Northern, Milwaukee Road, Burlington, Northern Pacific, and Union Pacific, to which I installed body mount couplers and metal wheels:




Did someone say tank cars?  Also completed is a second Hooker chlorine tank car, and two ACFX LPG tank cars:




The return trip was under sunny skies, offering a nice view of Mount Baker in Washington State as we approached Tsawwassen:

Saturday saw the first measurable snowfall here this year. So while most normal well adjusted folks most likely stayed inside to model, we went outside to watch trains while there was daylight. I'm sure I look strange holding my old Iphone 5S while everyone around me has expensive cameras and such. But I couldn't pass this up for a quick cell phone grab. I do my best to stay outta the way of the others hence the pole and bad angle. I'm along more for the comedic relief. It was nice to get outside for a bit though. I normally hibernate during the cold.

No apologies necessary. This is a classic shot and angle, the going-away grab, and the snow is a treat. And I, for one, appreciate the old-style pole with the signal lines. We used to grouse about the poles and wires "interfering" with our RR photography including joking discussions about "pole filters" - a/k/a chainsaws. But without them, modern mainline railroad scenes can best be described as "sterile".

Nice job so far, however there are no paints that will mask those seams unless applied so heavily, thus filling mortar seams.
If you feel it will bother you, it's best to address it as best as you can right now.

Pilasters, downspouts, conduits or other piping can help with this!

@BCR 570 please enlighten us on the purveyance of that Hooker tank car.

It is an Atlas ready-to-run model #40556 17,360 Gallon Tank Car Hooker r/n #1265.  I already had #50 000 660 r/n #1258.  I substituted MT #905 couplers and BLMA trucks, and Jeff applied some light weathering.  They are very attractive cars which I recall seeing on the BCR in days gone by.

Low key weekend.  Clean up and planted a few trees.  However, it was a busy weekend in New Freedom PA.
