Very nicely done, but where is the opening for installing those 0201 SMD LEDs?    :D

For reference, here's a pair hanging on the last active CNJ caboose I know of, properly illuminated with lamp oil (but overpowered by the camera flash).

Making a working N scale oil lamp might be a bit complicated.  :D

Please don't take this as personal criticism because I know your CAD model is perfect, and yes i realize the 3' rule may apply.

If I am being quite honest, I am a bit disappointed in the missing and/or lopsided spherical detail on top of some the lanterns, that is such a nice feature completing the top.

Curious what layer thickness was used?

I find it odd that some would get it completely and others would not.

I am way ahead of you.  I already have some clear resin but a 402 is the smallest LED I have.  Might have to get a 201 and give it a try.

Yeah, we are talking pretty small here.  I printed them at 25 microns.

I started with this railroad drawing:

I had to alter the lamps some to make them show up better and I added a depression to help with painting like Sunrise did on theirs.

Ok, that explains it- that must be cured extra resin blobs on the top, your model is much less pronounced.

Actually, I think it is from the Tamiya primer.

This is a crappy cell phone shot of unpainted ones but I tried to focus on the tops.  In real life they are very well done.

Those are cool.

Not only could Shapeways have not been able to print those, they would have rejected the file.

The issue with the top is one you'll have with any printer.  Make it a single dome without the stepped part and it'll be fine.

That reminds me I have a gas pump that got rejected I should try...

Wow. I have a switchstand lantern that needs to be done this way. Shapeways rejected those as well, though as you can see my major sin was trying to print them hollow enough to take a wire.

Nice!  Since I don't know how large the lanterns are I don't know if 0402 LED would fit in it. If you use white LED you can then use transparent color paints in the lens openings to get multiple colors.

Ah! And this view also reveals the mounting brackets on the bottom. Excellent.

That's what I was thinking.
