Going to order the Sugarcubes that @jdcolombo  linked too and see if the 4 Ohm speakers will work with Paragon 3.

It does sound good but after hearing how much better it could sound I got to try it out!

Why 4 ohms?  If the audio amp (and the decoder's internal power supply) can handle the extra current needed to drive a 4 ohm speaker, I expect the only thing it will do is to make it louder.

Since it`s 2 8 Ohm speakers in Parallel it`ll drop it to 4 I figured that would be better than going up to 16

But is louder necessarily better?  We usually turn down the sound decoder's volume because the sound is too annoying.  Anyway, I'll be very interested in your findings.  While I know that ESU decoders can handle 4 ohm speaker impedance, I hope that the BLI decoder survives.  :)

Not everybody is annoyed by loud things. Take my wife, for example.

I thought of you more as being just obnoxious rather than loud.   :D

@jdcolombo thanks for the write up!
Replace my T1 factory speaker with a sugar cube today.

I immediately had to turn the speaker down but the sound is amazing now. Really a great way to take the T1 to the next level. I agree that its surprising it doesnt sound better with the Included speaker.

Interesting.  Looks like you connected those speakers in series, so the impedance is 16 ohms.  Do you know what was the impedance (resistance would do too) of the original speaker?  You can measure it if you have a multimeter handy.

Yeah after we talked, I realized it would be better to do 16 ohm and I had to crank the sound way down after it was done. Pretty sure its 8 Ohm but I`ll try and measure it later.

I apologize for the necro bump but I figured it’s better than making a new thread. My T1’s sound is still offensively awful and tinny even after changing the CVs. I just wanted to check what the current go-to solution is. Two speakers or one? This is my first sound loco so I really want to get the best I can out of it before I swear off the concept entirely.

Supposedly Scale Sound Systems https://www.scalesoundsystems.com/shop has the best speakers , at least for HO . They have N scale speakers as well . I really need to give these a try in my next loco .    Mike

The Scale Sound Systems link to their N scale speakers says "coming soon."

If it were me, I'd copy what CodyO did.  The speakers can be ordered from sbs4dcc.com
