This little machine really impresses me. It took 6 tries to keep the part from failing but I successfully printed a EMD "Q" fan that's see-through. It's not as fine as an etched part, but I think they'll look pretty good with the fan blades installed as well.

It's not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be, but it definitely needs gentle handling.

Haven't printed anything in a while, but I fired it up today. Man the hot weather really does affect the resin. It drips right off like water.

Definitely.

Speaking of having not printed in awhile - has anyone suffered the same drought that I have with their FDM printers?  I haven't used my FDM printer in over a year since getting the Photon!      It probably needs to be lubricated at this point having sat idle for so long.  I miss the ole FDM and want to get back to using it for structural things that don't require super fine details.  Discovered my PLA is brittle so I'll have to get new rolls.  Think I'll make that this weekend's project to get an old-school print going.

UPDATE 6/28 - ugh, old school printing...I forgot what a pain that was. (doing my first print in over a year right now)  Wish I had the cash for a Prusa Mk3 so I could experience the "it just works" factor for FDM.  I've got a 2014 PrintrBot Simple Metal - which is a great printer for the time - but a huge pain to dial in...  Maybe some day I'll get 800 bucks drop in my lap so I can upgrade.  Meanwhile, old school for now!

WTF just spent the last few days making a 3d file and today my Sketchup tells me the license is up. 

Have no idea how to re-new it either.

I thought SketchUp was free unless you have the Pro version.

Nice. This gives me hope that see-through fan replacements can be had for diesels that have more three-dimensionality to their design, like the late GP9s. I really need to learn SketchUp so I can design the parts I need.

Yes it is pro. But there is not link to re-new and I can't even find the serial number, just a pain. Had all the extensions I needed installed.

For what like the 5th time?  Just tired to open a model in Solidworks and I can't even figure out how to pan around, plus the zoom of the scroll wheel is backwards.

I can't even find the Hobbyists version of Fusion 360. When I go the the Hobbyists website all it says is "free trial". Once you click that you get asked what your intended use is... hobbyists is not on the list and I don't want a 1 year subscription. I want to never mess with it again in my lifetime.

There is no hobbyist version AFAIK, it's a full drawing package.  You do need to subscribe, but it's free.
