After six months of abuse, I have determined that it's time for my original FEP film to be retired.  I got a second vat (FEP included w/the vat) to help speed along resin changes.  Hadn't used it yet but thought it would be a good opportunity to show you a before and after.  As you can see, the old one is pretty scarred up from using the spatula to free up failed prints.  I think going forward I'm going to try to not do that, although getting six months out of the original film I think is pretty good - it probably could have lasted a bit longer.

Related to my previous post - maintenance.  I saw on Thingiverse there was a part you could print to mount your build plate at an angle so you could let your resin drip off into the vat, however if you just rotate your build plate 90 degrees you can accomplish the same thing.  Be sure to tighten your mounting knob so it doesn't accidentally fall while you're doing your work.  I do this when I'm getting ready to swap colors or do maintenance and don't want to waste that precious liquid gold.  2nd tip - if you guys haven't already gotten a funnel - just do it.  It makes putting resin back in the bottle so much easier...

So I've been working on the is small HOn30 0-4-2 loco.

The Shapeways order that I waited 28 days for had a set of cylinders for this. I didn't like how big I drew them so re-drew and printed myself. Then the Shapeways cab floor was not fully cured and warped in both directions. So I printed that myself, but also added a foot board pilot just to see if the supports would print. They did! After that I made a front pilot. Then decided to combine the front pilot and cylinders into one piece.

All of this printing and re-adjusting would have taken months with Shapeway

Went to Walmart    today to get some 91% and they were all out. I'm talking a shelf about 2x6' totally bare with just some crumbs left. I bought some there a few days ago and it was packed. Found 2 70% bottles, but left them. Just thought it was funny...

Who is buying all the IPA?   

BTW it was $2.50 a quart so $10 a gallon.

Yes, fortunately reasonable reasoning prevailed. It is amazing how puritanical Unites States is.  They should see some of the stuff shown even in European TV commercials even kids can see.  But here lots of bloody violence is ok on free TV, but even some innocent nudity is a big no-no.
