Going into the weekend, I finished up the redecoration of a few passengers cars. Here Osgood-Bradley SP coach #203 , Diner #10040 with its replacement Keystone Details roof and vents, and the 10-1-2 Lake Whatcom sleeper wait for their next assignment on the Klamath.

I also started painting of my GHQ NP W-3 2-8-2. This kit has been assembled waiting for paint for probably 15 years . Here she is with the basic black, graphite and red oxide colors (white running boards and red cab windows are still needed). This is the best it will look before I crap it out with a end-of-steam patina...

Continuing with the passenger theme. I just finished another sleeper for my Pioneer Limited. Rodney is a 16 Duplex Roomette - 4 Double Bedroom PS Car. Milwaukee only had 4 of these cars, Raymond, Rodney, New Lisbon and Wiconsin Dells.

The car was built using brass car sides from Athabaska Scale Models on a passenger car core kit. Archer Transfer rivet strips and weld lines were used on roof and ends. I also used a pair of Kato Olympian Hiawatha trucks and Z scale couplers.

And here is a photo of The Pioneer Limited arriving Chicago in the early morning hours.

Beautiful cars and scenery Bill!
Are those Z couplers body- or truck-mounted?

After the completion of my 0-6-0, I wanted to have a memento of the 3-1/2 insane years I devoted to that project, so I assembled nearly all the 700 photos together into hard-cover photobooks using Shutterfly, using only the original high-res photos, redoing the embedded text (since I only put that into photos I post at lo-res on-line).  I also added additional text to make them into complete books that tell the "story".  I had to do it in 2 volumes, because Shutterfly can only handle up to 110 pages in a hard-bound photo book.

It may not be the cheapest way to do this, but they did a magnificent job.  The print, color, and cover came out beautifully, and the pages are heavy photo card stock.   And it's a lay-flat binding on 11" wide pages.  I waited until they had some 50% off sales, and still, it cost me about $240 to get these two books printed.  But I don't regret it after all the time I put into this model.   I was also able to put these books on the table at the model contest in Kansas City as supporting documentation.

Below are some sample photos of how the pages came out.  (I just plopped the books on the floor and took some photos of the pages).  Now, they have sent me an amazing discount offer, so I could print a pair of the books for less than half what it originally cost me (about $110).

The images below should be clickable to see larger views of them.  But for some odd reason, I have to click themtwice to get it to work.

Been on a Trains slump for the last few months. Doing some things to my module here and there, and some minor work to a few locomotives. Been doing loco matinance prepping for train show season. nothing picture worthy though.

I have been working on one of my other hobbies though, Old arcade machines. Yesterday I picked up my 7th machine. It's an old Pac-man cocktail cab, that was converted to an Arkanoid. I got a screaming deal on it, Only paid $25. All it needed was some monitor adjustments and cleaning to get it working 100%. I'm still working on my Nintendo Dualsystem, Chasing bad chips, and such....

here is a picture of my "Arcade corner" of my living room. I got a few more machines I want, But I'm pretty much out of space....Might be time to build a shed. lol [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Looks like you painted it yourself in your garage? If that is the case then this is the largest item ever I have ever seen airbrushed!  :D

But seriously, looks like you can do large and shiny paint jobs just as well as in N or Z scale.  Awesome!

Are you planning on building a mini N scale layout under the bonnet?  That would be a great conversation piece at the local cruise nights.

Your model is priceless and the book is really, really good!  Well worth the price you paid.

I also noticed that I have to click on the images twice to get them to load full size (and not just in your post).

When you layout the book out how do you make sure the images don't come out too dark or light when printed?  I have hard time doing that printing photos on my home printer hooked up to my PC.  The look good on the screen but usually come out too dark on the printer.  If I was spending fre hundred dollars, I would want to make sure the photos come out looking good.

Thanks!

Good point.  When I print them at home on an inkjet, they used to come out too dark as well.  I find that by correcting the gamma (also sometimes called the "color curve" in programs like GiMP) so that I truncate it at the right edge of the last hump in the color curve (this also makes the photo visibly brighter on the screen), those big differences between how the brightness looks on the screen vs how it looks on paper go away.  It's also important to adjust the gamma setting of your monitor.  Mac machines have a control panel for doing that, and my Windows machine has an NVidia card in it that has a utility for doing it.   I have two monitors, so I already had to go through the exercise of matching the gamma and color level settings so that images look about the same on both monitors.  Between doing that and adjusting the gamma on the photo itself, I find that I get good brightness out of my printer, and it seems to have worked great for how Shutterfly printed them.

Chris, that car body is gorgeous.  You really are a craftsman-of-all-trades.  You should enter that thing in a classic car competition when you finish it.

I have also been in vehicle mode this past week, prepping my car for our club's annual show tomorrow.  I also managed to fit in the following modelling projects . . .

Finished building my second set of three NSC log stake cars from the Kaslo Shops kits:

And installed an articulated holder for the Chetwynd Yard throttle:
