Got the subway portals wired, just have to connect them to the auxiliary bus.  Tested the lighting with a 9v battery to confirm the circuitry is sound.  With the room lights on, the lights aren't noticeable other than diminishing the internal shadows and making inside detail visible.  With the room lights off, the lights are visible but there is no supernova effect.

These are two quick cellphone pics taken during the testing of the first portal.  Not the best quality but they show the day/night appearance.

Greetings from Victoria where I am preparing to participate in the annual Jaguars On The Island show tomorrow.

The layout reached another milestone this week wit completion of Chetwynd Yard.  The last control panels were received and installed, including revisions to the BCR Mechanical panel and the main schematic for the yard:




This enabled me to go underneath the yard one last time and finish off the wiring with connections of the toggle switches to their respective servo controllers:




I also spent time working on train control items in advance of the next trial operating sessions.  Seen here is the   dispatcher's paperwork including train sheet, manual block clearances, block bulletin and locomotive location report, all based on prototype examples:




And paperwork for train crews including timetable, train orders, MBS clearances and bulletins, and switch lists, again all patterned on prototype examples:




And train registers for trains departing Chetwynd and Dawson Creek:




All of this will require the recording of times, so I called up a trial fast clock on the laptop dedicated to the layout:




I also had station name boards made for the fascia, replicating the typeface seen on boards from the 1970s, which will facilitate the issuing of restrictions, slow orders, work limits, etc.:








Looking forward to a second trial operating session on Tuesday, with a third operator and including the Dawson  Switcher.

Making good progress on my second FM switcher. Just need to bend and solder up the handrails. It also has sound under the hood !

Great progress, Tim, congrats! I'd love to join you for the next pre-op, just to try out the paperwork, but it's a bit of a drive to get there from here :P

Finished up this AT&SF 64' baggage car today.  The shell is courtesy of Skytop models (thank you Bill).  I added grab irons, steps, trucks, MT 1015 couplers, diaphragms, painted, and added Microscale decals.  The prototype of this car was from a batch of cars ordered from Pullman-Standard in 1956.  They were built as shells and delivered to the Topeka shops where they were outfitted before entering service (all interior furnishings were installed by the railroad).  While this one is finished in silver paint, some of the cars were finished in a dark grey paint job with silver trucks. 

After I thought I was done with it, I wasn't happy with the ride height or the coupler length, so I filed down the bolsters just a bit so that the ride height matches my Kato cars and swapped out the 1015's for Z scale 905's.  The completed picture reflects these changes; the non-painted photo is before lowering and swapping the couplers. 

A nice little weekend project.

I've been working on a Bergen National Laser kit for the last few weeks; hoping to finish it in time to take to the ELHS annual meeting, which is less than 7 weeks away now. Since the company recently announced they are back  producing kits again, I thought I'd post a couple of in-progress photos.

This kit is a model of the Lackawanna station in Binghamton NY, which is where this years' meeting will be. So far I'd rate the kit a 9 out of 10   8) and my assembly of it to date about a 4 out of 10.   :facepalm:  But I am pushing forward with it...








The detail in the kit is incredible.  Here's a shot of the engraving:
