Chris and Miguel:  The only cross I have was handlaid, but it was an "almost 90 degree" custom job, and much easier.  I don't know if my method, gleaned from a very old magazine article, would work for a shallow crossing like yours.

Basically, the method is to use two pieces of flextrack, notching the rails so that they interlock.  Remove the ties in the crossing area, solder the rails to new ties, then add the guardrails, and file the flangeways.  For one like mine, it's easy.  Filing the notches for one like yours looks a lot harder.

Chris:  Your crossing looks good, and a very neat job of soldering.

It would not be an RPM meet in SP territory without the obligatory sugar beet train (this one HO):

Making progress on the Lark.

The 77-D-11 Coffee shop - #10401 is ready for primer then paint. (Eventually some sort of interior)

Thanks,

Good to see you Doug...excellent modelling. We had a few N scalers in the house. Alvin's was impressive! The signal demo was great.

Nice work! Paper template or ??

Thanks Mike. Fast Tracks.

For those with limited soldering skills and no hand laying track experience, it's the way to start out. For me, it was my lacking of soldering ability that kept me from doing this sooner. But I watched the videos several times and followed the Fast Track system. I also got the recommended flux, solder and proper iron. It made all the difference, before my solder joints were gray grainy blobs and now they're shinny and smooth. And now I can see the solder flow into the joint.  Very happy I decided to learn to do this, and if I can do this, trust me any body else can do this.
Never argue with idiots; they'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

I spent Father’s Day working on my N Scale models of 1449 and a 1100 Class. I got my Tomyec chassis from Plaza Japan yesterday, and my daughters had fun trying to figure out the Japanese newspaper….I have not attached any part that needs to be black.

Finished the crossing.

Do you have (or need) gaps cut in the outside running rails where they meet at the center of the crossing?
Or, does it get wired so that only one route is live at a time?

I've been working on a number of projects the past week. I've been working on a very worn looking F7; B&M 4265, I've also painted and decalled a RDC-3 and painted a RDC-1. Today I finally got back to my entry in the Industrial Structure Challenge. I got distracted in February, but better late than never.

The F7 is quite shiny now, but won't be for long. Still need to finish the decals first.

The prototype:

The RDC also needs to be weathered. It's far too clean for an early '70s Budd car.

I put the gaps where the template indicated. I think any additional gaps would depend on the track arrangement and if it created a situation where the outside rails were opposite each other.

I finished up another Jordan Spreader today. It feels good to be getting projects off the workbench. [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Karl,  Where did you put the weight?  And what did you use for it?

Doug,
I put the weight under the deck. The frame was designed with plenty of room. I used PineCar Bar Weights that I picked up at my local HobbyTown.
