I didn't think about it yet. This is a G scale model:


It could be thick and half etched to leave the 4 mounting bolts. Or thin and I'll just use NBW details.  Then again I could also add a whole etched front face with radiator detail and the word WHITCOMB across the top to sit behind the grill.

On the left I drew 2 roofs, one upside down just encase one printed better. Also 2 sets of hood sides.

Is the green surface representing the table of the printer, and red is wax material?  I wonder why all the printed objects are printed over fairly thick wax layer (not directly on the table).

Shapeways calls the green area "foot print". Red is wax. I have no idea why the parts are so high off the table.

It is a 3mm layer to stabilize the first layer of FUD/FXD as the print starts. And yes that is figured in the cost now.

Playing around with the lighting. I didn't like how blue the LEDs were so I painted every other row with clear yellow. There are 6 strips of LEDs hanging off the front.

More progress.
My LED strips were placed at a 45 degree angle and stick out proud about 3" from the front of the layout. If I keep it flush I find everything at the front of the layout has shadows. Since they were 6000K lights I didn't like how blue they were (I have no idea why I didn't just look for 5000K lights    )  So I painted every other row with a clear yellow paint I had.

Just like the stock Busch locos I used a small magnet for the coupler.

I tested a magnet coupler on my mine loco about a year ago.  Works well.  Allowed automatic uncoupling using an axle stop.

About the front grill... I took care of that today. I forgot I used to etch my own brass at home before finding PPD. So I whipped up the drawing in CAD, printed on a transparency, exposed, and etched. 





It is mounted out on four .0125" posts. Also added a .025" radiator cap.

As for the couplers. I just used what came on Busch locos. It works so far.
