I like that Great Northern box car.

What strikes me as odd is that the Approximate Time Period seems to start in January 1970.

The UMAX containers are good news. I wonder when the 53' well cars will be introduced by MT?
The whiskey hoppers are interesting, I might pick those up.

I always thought that this kind of advertisement wasn't allowed by the time these hoppers hit the rails.

Seems to have been re-stenciled in 1-70. Also has the ACI plate, which means it's a BN car that hasn't been repainted yet.

Here's a photo of the Old Forester, supposedly in 1989:

Sur-purred that the Cotton Belt passenger car set doesn't have a parlor car or two considering that the SSW bought some and converted them to coaches, with smoking rooms in Daylight-paint (two cars)... nice offerings overall... love the idea of the N&W diner!!!

How about a ban for an Evans 4780 with undersized trucks and oversized draft gear that is painted as a PS 4427?

GN did rebuild some single-sheathed cars using PS components.   The car they chose from GN 35500-35749 was NOT one of them...

vs GN 40100-40299

http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/gn/gn040275jpa.jpg

The riveted sides and the sills would be tough to replicate on a factory-painted model of a 50' PS-1, but the fishbelly underframe would be an interesting detail to add.

This RMC article covers an HO model using a PS-1 (probably Intermountain) as the starting point, but the modifications would still be applicable to a N scale model of a PS-1.

"L" type cars - like covered hoppers (LO) are exempt from AAR Rule 84.

At one point, there was an exception if the manufacturer of the advertised product owned or leased the rolling stock and it was in captive use, that is, solely used to transport his products to market, or, materials to produce same from somewhere else to his place of business.

They are far out of my era, anyhow.  Other than that, nothing for me this month.

Rule 84, part A, copied directly from the 2011 Field Manual of the A.A.R. Interchange Rules

A. Advertisements
1. Cards or banners bearing advertisements or trademarks must not be attached:
a. To Cars
b. To permanent stakes which are part of the car
c. To temporary stakes supplied by shippers, solely for this purpose

2. Cards or banners may be applied as follows:
a. To the lading, providing they are safely secured.
b. To temporary stakes used to secured the lading, providing they are safely secured.
c. Banners and their supporting frames must be securely fastened by bolts, wires, or bands

3. Advertisements of any shipper, consignee, or product, is prohibited on all cars, except special cars of Mechanical Designation "L" and tank cars of Mechanical Designation "T". The name of "home point" of the car owner or lessee, a trade mark, symbol or the name of the car owner or lessee or any part thereof, will not be considered advertising. A trade mark, symbol or logo may be placed or stenciled on sides of any car provided size and location do not interfere with identification of proper reporting marks.

Covered hopper = "LO" - thus exempt...

Rule 84, part A looks the same in the 1977 Field Manual.

I agree, the GN 40100-40299 series would be a better choice if one wanted a GN "PS-1" boxcar.  Since MT already makes resin load castings, a resin fishbelly add-on would be easy to make, and most buyers wouldn't notice that the car had a "modern" underframe with an old centersill.  From the side, on the track, it would look fine.

Given the issues Intermountain has getting their cars to market, I'd like to see MT, or Atlas, or Bluford, make AAR standard boxcars.

BN wasn't formed until 3-70, so during 1-70, would have still been GN
