My first thought, seeing a prototype photo, was corrugated siding.  I don't remember ever seeing one in person.  With only ten cars, that's not surprising.  XM-4s in general weren't uncommon in Pasco in the 70s.

This is the only one I have at the office apparently.  I do have hard copy Builders Photos I'll scan for Brian.
The grain doors on this car have been plated over.  They would have looked like the car in the 2nd photo.

Yikes! This better come with an etched alignment jig for the lettering panels.
There's a shyness found in reason

You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

In this example I think that molding those panels as part of the sides would make sense (alignment-wise). But that would limit the body to a single roadname.

If/when it happens, it will be etched panels and BN variations will be first. I can say with certainty that the as-built version will not be done (by me) since it would require a second set of roof and ends.

Bryan,
What Era will your car be good for then. Not real familiar with this car but would love to have one if it is 1967 or earlier.  :D

Jon:  The car was built in 1963, with a roofwalk, and full-height ladders on both ends.  The modeled version was rebuilt sometime after 1966, with no roofwalk, and shortened ladders on the A end and side.

If the end ladders are cast on, you could still squeeze one in in 1967.  If they are separate pieces, replacing them with full-height ladders, adding the missing rungs on the side, and adding a roofwalk would allow you to backdate it to the as-built form.

Except that it will be the version with the plated-over grain doors, which I think didn't happen until after the roofwalks were removed.  I'm basing the model on the configurations while in BN green paint.  The hope is to pre-paint the body parts and pre-deco the etched plates similar to the Portec auto rack wrapper, which is doable for a short-run kit.  But the first step is to finish the sides and prove the concept.  If the BN does well, then maybe a CB&Q release will follow at some point.

Still sitting on CB&Q X58 cars.  Good business sense to avoid the road for awhile.

One of these days I need to order one...

But I'd be in for a BN one
