To chime in here, I had Lemosteam design them this way because it is one piece. I felt that if it was more than one piece, not (as) many folks might buy one.. Since John is doing me a favor here, I want him to have the best chance at selling some of these. I know some folks who will want these, but their modeling skills are not likely up to the task of making precise slits in their loco shells..

If you look closely, you'll notice the legs on the prototype are at 90 degrees to one another, and are very thin too. I didn't figure most folks would be able to/want to cut a precise slit in their loco shell, so I decided against that. Nothing is stopping anyone from adding their own though.

The only part I wanted to change but we could not was the leg height, as it was beyond the capabilities of shapeways. What I plan to do, is add some, say .010 styrene to the bottom of the legs, trim to match, and drill holes for some .008 wire, and drill matching holes in the shell...I will be removing the "center post", which isn't on the prototype.

But I'm curious to see how others make them work too!

Cool. What size is the number board? (scale inches)

I figured since these numberboards were the perfect companion to the SW headlight castings, they'd be a good fit.

For those who live in the area, the loco I am trying to model(ok one of them), B&M 1127, still runs today on the Luzerne and Susquehanna based out of Pittston, Pa.

OK, I got mine and gave them their Bestine bath....What do you guys think? The only thing I would change is the height, which I plan to...But that is beyond what can be done using Shapeways...

I will add MV lenses to the class lights. I will show you guys more once I get this loco underway, I have a backlog of projects though!

Looks good to me.

You could put it up on wire stilts or even use thin left over section of brass etched sheets to get thin flat strips.

They seem to be a bit large, but probably because of their stark white (unpainted) color.

I have to agree it looks too large... Compare where the handrail support and front door hinge are compared to the numberboard on the model and prototype... Otherwise it is looking cool  :)
The Railwire is not your personal army.

There must be at least one  :ashat: on here that lives close enough to the Pittston Pa. area that they could put a measuring tape to them.

The number board box on the Guilford unit shown here (I think is ex Boston & Maine) is 12.5" tall, 7" wide at the widest part, and 40" long. It is only 5 min away so I ran over with a tape measure. Forgot my phone

EDIT: It is Guilford 1424.

1424, SW9, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1953, #18183, FN 4208-3, as B&M 1229.  It was transferred as ST 1424 and sold to LTE in July 2003
Used to be this loco:

I just saw a photo of the Guilford painted SW9 that is on the Milford and Bennington for parts has these boxes as well...I was going to visit it , but Chris seems to have solved the issue!

They may be slightly oversized, I'm not really sure if the HO parts that were used for the measurements are to scale or not, but they're pretty close , probably close enough to live with..

Thanks for getting the measurements Chris! Hopefully @Lemosteam  can tell us what he has for dimensions !

Thanks for getting the measurements Chris! Hopefully @Lemosteam  can tell us what he has for dimensions !

If you have a caliper handy, you can easily measure yours, then multiply the dimension by 160.  :)
If you don't have a caliper handy, I highly recommend to add one of those to your hobby tool arsenal. Harbor Freight often has the 6" digital version for sale for $10. How can you go wrong. I couldn't build models without mine (I owned one for probably 20 years now). Back then they used to have sale price of $20.  I still bought one.  :)

Measurements cane right off the HO version and scaled down to N.
