Remember, Bob - I have a MacIntosh with mouse that has only one button. I can't "right click" or "left click". Unless of course there's some kind of workaround that I'm unaware of.

I managed to get a sample photo on my new Google account. But now I'm wondering if the people suggesting I use the in-house Railwire system instead might be on to something. I'm looking into both right now.

I know that once I succeed at posting the first photo, it'll get easier. It's that first step that seems to be the worst one for me.

No picture this time, but I may be getting closer...

Hahahaha!  Okay...a single button mouse is something I've never had to put up with since I bought my first PC for $15,000 way back when!  As has been stated, hold the control key on the keyboard down, and push your single button for a "right click"...or as has also been stated getting a two button mouse and plugging it in may be the ticket!   :D

As for those frothing at the mouth about uploading to TRW instead of using a "third party" that is certainly a possibility and would work pretty well...and I suggested you might do that in my original post to you.  However, I've only experimented with the TRW gallery when I have assisted my buddy Nate ( @Nato ) to upload photos for his posts, so I'm more familiar with Googlephotos which works very well for me.

In either case, a two-button mouse is going to make things a whole lot easier IMO and isn't 'zackly a complicated addition to your old Mac.

All I care about is seeing your work here, because it needs to be shown!

GOOD LUCK!

Cheerio!

Here's my second attempt. Same thing. Ideas?

Loren!  You're making progress!!

You've got the Googlephotos location at TRW, and now all you need to do is highlight it by swiping your cursor (while pressing the left button...or in your case, the single button on your mouse) over the address....which will highlight it in a blue color.

Then, release the button on your mouse and go up to the tool buttons above the emojis...specifically the "very happy" emoji with the big, toothy smile...and press the button directly above it which has a small, yellowish representation of a photo in it.  It will turn light blue when yo put your cursor on it, and your cursor will turn into a hand making a pointy finger...and "Insert Image" will come up in a little window.

Push it (the light bluish button above the "very happy" emoji) with your transformed cursor's pointy finger, and you will see that img and /img have been placed at the start and end of the location each encased in square parentheses...these [

Press the light blue "Preview" button down on the right bottom corner of the typing window and see your lovely photo!!  It will look like this:

EDIT:  Okay...I tested your address with img and /img each encased in square parentheses...these-----> [ , and it worked!  But, I decided that it should appear in YOUR posting first, not in mine..since I bet you chose it specifically to be your first TRW photo you've posted, so...I edited it out of this reply.

WOW!

I can't wait!

OR, you can simply type img at the start of your photos address, encasing it with square parentheses...these ----> [ , and type /img at the end, likewise encasing it with square parentheses...these ----> [

The effect will be the same, and your photo will appear in your TRW post after you press the light blue "Save" button adjacent to the "Preview" button down on the right corner of the typing window if you're modifying your post, or the "Post" button in the same location if it's a new reply.

Cheerio!

Hi, Bob -

I'm extremely grateful to you for all your help. I owe you for this.

Here's my next attempt, following your instructions. It's quite a job going through all these steps, but it seems to be working this time. I know it'll get easier as "muscle memory" takes over in time. And manipulating photo sizes and so on may take a little more time.

BTW this is an earlier photo of my engine terminal's machine shop before I had converted all my steamers into oil burners.

Loren, do yourself a *BIG* favor - stop listening to 3rd party-hosting folks and upload the photos directly from your Mac to the Railwire.  It is really much easier and it works.  I posted rudimentary instructions earlier in this thread.

All of Loren's pics come to me as a gray circle with a dash in the middle. What do I not have enabled?

I have no problem seeing anybody else's pics

Hi, Pete -

I thought I answered your private message a week or so ago. Maybe I bungled that somehow. We can try a second time if you want.

As for the RW site, that's my next step. I like the idea of keeping everything "in-house" if possible. My first attempt using the Google site was just a matter of my actually being able to download some sample photos there without any problems to speak of. I'll try the RW site's photo posting system very soon.

The problem is on Loren's side.

On Reply No. 21, I'm seeing a perfectly reproduced photo of my machine shop scene. On the previous two (or three) attempts, I'm seeing lines of raw code in the postings' text area that, when clicked on, open to other photos that show up perfectly. Is it possible that I can get these results but no one else can? Did anyone here see the machine shop photo described above?

Pete, I just now attempted to post a test photo using the RailWire photo posting system. I did exactly as you said, step by step, but when I tried to finish up by clicking on the "Add Picture" button, I got no response at all. Any suggestions?

Loren, all I'm getting is a gray circle with a minus sign in it.  Hmmmm....let me copy your first photo location and see what happens...

EDIT:  This isn't what I got the first time...but I think I figured it out... rgg

Well...something happened between the time I tested it a couple of hours ago and now.  It worked fine then.  Make sure you have opened the photo in Googlephotos within the respective album.  Other than that, I don't know what could have possibly changed...

Wellll...this is interesting.  I decided to try ALL of the previous non-working photo locations you've posted.  I copied ONLY the address, not the ?jpg or the img and /img in square parentheses...and the second posting you did was the only one that works.  So, the locations on the other postings are corrupt, or copying them and including the add-ons somehow corrupts them.

Try doing the whole thing again from copying the photo location while in Googlephotos and pasting it to your TRW message, then add the add-ons, preview it and post it...it should work.

Cheerio!

Hmm. . . Now you got me stumped too!  Maybe the browser you are using is so old that it is not working properly with the forum's software?  I'm also not a Mac guy. Sorry!

Try the other picture uploading method (directly to the post). You should see a plus sign icon and "Attachments and other options" under the text entry window. Click the plus sign. Then hit Browse button that just appeared, select the photo on your computer, then on the right side of the "browse" line hit the down arrow and select "Inline full-size image".  That should automatically show up in the text window as attachimg=1. Once you post the message the picture should be in there.
