Considering how much design work the FEF took I doubt we'll see another steam engine any time soon. They worked on that for years.  And Kato Japan hasn't even officially  approved the next train set after the Hiawatha.  When Mr. Kato thinks of "Classic Americana" "granger" isn't the first thing that comes to mind so they're mulling it over a little longer.   The more people excited about a TA the better likelihood it will get made.

I see the TA set along the lines of the Silver Streak Zephyr and not a classic name train.  Actually a good filler between the OH and the next name train release. I would expect to see the UP paint scheme OH next year at some point.

Considering Kato has the Fs and, now, the FP, I hope the next train(s) are the EB and NCL.

I would quickly buy both the EB & NCL if offered. I would also love to see Kato do an E7 or an E6.  Can you imagine if they did an E1 with a Super Chief!

Chalk up another vote for the Rock Island Rocket with TA! Also, Kato you know your next diesel(AFTER THE TA) has to be an E3/6 or E7.

I am amazed that someone hasn't done the 1937 Super Chief.  But yes, Kato would be my first choice.  I can't imagine it would not sell well.  Even I would pre-order. But somebody please make it before Bachmann does.

I also suggested that to Paul.

But he said it was not going to happen.
Too many railroad variations.

Had a chance to finally upload some pics from our trip.
A few highlights.

Sorry they are a little fuzzy.

O gage.  I confess, I was impressed with the up-coming WM Shay #6 coming from Lionel.

Here is the Bachmann SD9  or maybe 7 or something.  (SD9 with SD7 handrails).

The Bachmann is also updating the CW40-8.  You can see that the handrails are much better than before.  Also comes DCC and with sound.

Saw the Scale Trains Tier 4 GEVOS.   They are gorgeous.  And in this crappy photo you can see three shell variations.
But...... display person said.... Go ahead and pick it up.

I said OK, and looked underneath.   It does NOT have end needle bearings on the axles with cone cups.  Instead, it has solid axles that go through a hole in the pickup.  Kind of disappointed.   I said something to the display person.   To be honest, he seemed to have no idea what I was talking about (in all fairness, he may be an HO guy).  He said he's not the R&D guy.... but that he would pass on my suggestion.

I fell in love with the Atlas Well car with trailer hitches.   I remember the first time I saw a container flat carrying an 18-wheeler trailer.
I think this will be a great model.

The highlight for me personally was seeing my much desired GP39-2.
Atlas only had a sample of the later phase.  But phase 1 will be first (Reading version) as announced.

Saturday, next to the American Z Lines folks, there was a guy showing this little Z chassis.

Little motor, little wheels, little chassis.   This had critter fodder written on it.

And then I was pleasantly surprised at the Kato booth.
They had a sample of the Japanese tram.
I was dying to look under it.

In my ignorance, I was expecting this to have a new shell on the same old pocket chassis.  But it is VERY different,

I see a tiny truck with tiny wheels.   This thing has CRITTER written all over it.  Might be a good chassis for MOW trucks!

I would also buy either, or both, of the EB and NCL.

"Here is the Bachmann SD9  or maybe 7 or something."  Is the SD-something" related to the 1960s Arnold/Rapido "FA-whatever"?  In defense of the FA, I have two, and they both run quite well.  Sound like the proverbial coffee grinder, smell of ozone, and bounce on the spikes on ME code 55, but run smoothly in spite of all that.  Turn down the flanges and they'd be usable.

Ron, where have you been hiding?  The PORTRAM LRV is old news - it came out several years ago and it has been even on sale. I have I think 3 of them.  They have powered trucks - they use low-voltage pager motors and have some sort of transistorized voltage regulator inside.  I haven't reverse engineered it yet.  :)

Actually, I think they came out when A-board was still online - I seem to recall reading about them there.
