I can see MicroTrains expanding these flats and tanks into a whole line with other loads and cars so that 5 years from now we'll be able to model a whole military train. I look forward to that, Joe.  :D

Anyone ever try removing the lettering and conspicuity stripes from an MT car?  I didn't know if the old trick of Isopropyl alcohol would work or not.  Modeling 1979-1999 I need the cascade green flats, and more than just the 3 of them in set #1.

Camp fuel and a q-tip...

Lima Tank plant is still operational refurbishing old tanks to new standards (the current commander is a peer of mine).  They aren't building brand new tanks anymore.  So, that means you could see several of these cars show up in a manifest train.   Don't know about the dimensional load requirements for every route.  The M1 tracks do hang off the side of the flatcars.

I'm currently shipping M1's from Sierra Army Depot (Herlong, CA) to Anniston Army Depot (Anniston, AL) for rebuild via UP and BNSF (whoever gives us the cheapest rate... :D).  Can't give all the details, but I have a lot of tanks in dry "storage" out here waiting for the call to ship for refurbishment.  The Army will never build another new M1 hull, so those left in the inventory are extremely precious....

Getting these cars from TRANSCOM and SDDC has proven to be difficult because they are in high demand for units shipping their equipment to NTC and other training areas.

Oh, I order both packs today too...  ;)

Cheers,
Brian

Good point!

There is a story that an M1 turret was not properly locked down - and swung sideways on ATSF or BNSF - taking out 80 miles of signal masts.

I believe that Ronsonol lighter fluid (Naphtha) is the same as the Coleman stuff.  So is VM&P Naphtha (available as paint thinner in hardware stores).

Yes

So will one set not have stripes, or will there be a follow-on?

I'm sure we will do the variations as well.  Based on the response this has been very successful and no reason to venture further out and hit the major schemes.

@Shipsure it mentions the tanks will be unassembled kits.  Do you know how these are going to be yet ?  Tracks and turret separate from the main body ?

As noted in the pre-order, they are un assembled, un painted kits molded in desert tan.   Looks like 10 parts and goes together very easy.  It comes with a fret of brass containing chain tie downs and a simple decal sheet for hull numbers, chevrons and the like.

Meh, shows how much I paid attention to the Vietnam action when I was a baby. But you get the gist, 60s-70s era car, Vietnam-era tanks. Please, Joe?

Thise new flats and the Abrams will look great behind those origami-hooded modern diesels, but a bulk of the rest of the locos being modeled out there are second gen, and we need appropriate rolling stock.
