Railwire Traveling Baggage Car - Admin Thread

Photo thread: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=42457

For a couple of years now, I've wanted to follow in @Puddington 's footsteps and send a car on a journey. I didn't want to do another freight car, because several of those have been done. Trainboard did a gondola, and NScale.net have done a couple of boxcars, as well as a caboose, dummy loco, and a coupe of passenger cars (both of which have disappeared).  Even so, I wanted to do something that would be interchanged by the prototype so that its appearance on multiple railroads would make sense. Given my love of the PRR, and the glut of unfinished Hell Gate Models kits that I have, I decided on a B60b baggage car.  I even had one messenger-equipped kit so that a passenger can go along for the ride.

Well, the plunge has been taken.  Some of you may remember this car that popped up during the M3T tour:

Many thanks to @dougnelson and Hell Gate Models for the kit, as well as @peteski for his assistance with decals, and @chicken45 for the blackened trip pins and window glazing (applied after the picture was taken).

It was ready to go last year, but after talking to @BCR 570 , I decided to wait until the M3T had finished its trip.  A few of us who were in on the planning passed it around with the train, where it was supposed to be subtle easter egg that would take on additional significance once this project was announced...  That is until @Ed Kapuscinski got ahold of it...  So much for that surprise.  :D  After conferring with @BCR 570 again, it's time to send The B60b on its way!  I'm still contemplating the seed for the story, but there will be a twist involved.

Obviously, the more the merrier!  PM me with the following information if you'd like to participate:

1.  Your First and Last Name
2.  Your Mailing Address
3.  Your Telephone Number
4.  Your Email Address

Obviously, all of this is necessary to make this thing work.  I'll have to share your name and address with the person who will send you the car, but I will otherwise keep your information confidential within the confines of making this project work.  Each participant will be responsible for the cost of sending the car on to the next participant.  I'll do my best to minimize border crossings or other expensive legs, and if there is anyone who would be willing to volunteer to bear the extra cost of shipping over the border, I'd very much appreciate it.

A few ground rules:

  • This a community project, but I will be managing this thing, so please respect both the car and any decisions I make about it.
  • Please post to this thread the same day that you receive the car, and the same day that you send it on.  A simple "Got it" or "Sent to @nextfoamer" will let us all keep track of the car's progress.
  • Please enjoy the car, craft a new chapter in the story, and post your photos and writings!
  • Pass the car on promptly.  Absent unforeseen circumstances, the car should be forwarded to the next participant one week after being received. Please let me know if something comes up and you need more time.
  • Before you send the car on, please contact the recipient and be sure that they are ready to receive it.
  • I don't mind requests or suggestions to change the order of the list, but I reserve the right to have the final say.
  • Do not modify the car in any way. (Unless you contact me first and I give you the OK.)

Lets have some fun with this!  Who's in?

So what's the main objective (other than to have the car travel to as many places as possible)?  You want a picture of the car on a layout or at some famous place/landmark or be as creative as possible, etc.?

The objective is to craft an ongoing story. Primarily that means seeing the car on people's layouts, and each person writing the next chapter of the story. I'll kick it off with the first chapter, and each participant gets to decide what happens to the car at each stop. These tours tend to take on a bit of a life of their own, so we'll see what happens!

I'm in.  The Plywood Plains is looking forward to the Bob (as they affectionately call it) coming for a visit.

When I get it, it'll be Conrail, or did I already make that joke?

Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Sure, why not. I don't have a home layout At the moment, Maybe it will line up with on of the MRNS events. Or maybe I'll have my N-trak module done enough for pictures.

Just off the wall - anyway this could end up at Altoona in August?   Lots of Railwire members there, Ntrak and Ttrak modules galore.

Sadly, I can't be in, because I no longer have an N scale layout.  But, I was fortunate enough to have already hosted the B60b when the M3T was in town:
