I voted for the pacific.
Unfortunately, the freaking big boy is winning right now. Jesus Christ, do we REALLY need another model of a locomotive that ran on ONE railroad, and in a very small portion of their network, AND has already been produced recently with great results?!?! Screw the big boy, lets see something that could play on a large variety of railroads.

Since Bachmann has several releases of the N&W J, if they did a Spectrum A, and a Y6b, they would clean house.

As for smaller steam, well, probably needed, but I'm just not into that era.

Not sure I understand this statement... I'm not familiar enough with NKP to know what their roster looked like but in the upper Midwest and western Canada many 2-6-0, 4-6-0, 2-8-0 and other smaller locomotives lasted to the end of steam.

Perhaps being primarily a mainline racetrack they led shorter lives on the NKP? interested to know...

I thought Bachmann had pretty well covered the medium sized USRA offerings, but then Kato is looking down the road. Plenty of people  who wanted one didn't get an Athearn Challenger or Big Boy if you judge from the prices and popularity of those engines when they show on EBay.

Companies don't offer what the "scale" needs, but what the market will buy. Sometimes those align, but even then with the long saga of the N scale SD40-2 drought, manufacturers will always make what they think will sell. Determining that from a fairly unscientific poll on their website probably isn't Kato's main method of determining future production offerings.

But I voted for the Santa Fe and Hudson.  At one point I considered a free lanced road that would use the USRA Bachmann fleet to model a railroad that was built during or right after WWI to expand capacity.

This seems to be yet another example of a company thinking of making a model which has already been made by other companies and a prototype of which was produced in a limited quantity and run on one or few railroads. I'm talking about a Big Boy.  Sort of reminds  me of the GG1. How many did we need?  The Rivarossi Big boy is fairly crude by today;s standards and the few brass versions issued looked good, but run so well. Athearn came out with a winner - it looked dare I say, better than brass and runs quite well.   I guess those unique oddball locomotives have more modeler/collector appeal than we all think. At least in the eyes of the manufacturers.  If Kato does make it, I don't see how it will look any better than Athearn (with all of its add-on separate details).  Kato's will be more cleanly assembled (no visible glue ) and better made, but not as detailed. But that is becuase there won't be any glued-on details.

I did not vote for the Big Boy - I already have the Rivarossi, Sakatsu and Athearn versions.
