JFRTM and trying to learn how to make better videos.  YouTube changed everything a few years ago, and I could never figure out the new editor.  This morning, I dove into iMovie:

Now what am I going to do for the rest of the weekend?  ;)  The railings are complete.   When I can get a decent day to take the bridge outside, I’ll hit it with primer and paint.

In the meantime, I can’t help but reminisce how far this part of the layout has come.  A few years ago, this area looked like this, and the same caboose is seen in both pictures and is only about a car length from being in the same spot.

Haha!  That detail is lacking on my prototype, but that’s awesome.

The minor detailing that I wanted to do was accomplished with some serious manhandling required.  I decided to add the little curved curbs at each end of the bridge and then figured I had already waited too long to trim the black styrene road surface to length.  I should have done that much earlier, but I didn’t know exactly where the ends of the railings and those curbs would be.  Thankfully, this bridge is surprisingly rugged, including the railings, because there was some serious cutting, chiseling, prying, and sanding going on to get those ends cleaned up.  The expansion joints on the bridge have been scribed, too.

A different angle, to better show how the “pavement” was intricately trimmed at the end of the bridge and around the curved curbs.  This gives something solid to glue the curbs in place.

I’m messing around with iMovie and made this box-office bomb.  Pardon the obvious flaws, as I’m no movie producer, and I’m lacking simple tools like a tripod.

Oh, and fumbling with a handheld iPhone and the ProtoThrottle is not easy.

Quite a few bridges here in eastern Kentucky don't have such drains.  Some have pavement-level grates, with short "downspouts", maybe a foot or two long, below the deck.  Others have openings in the bottom of the curbs/railings/sides, and the water just runs off through those.

I’m familiar with drains like you described.  I’ll have to go back and see what the prototype used, but it definitely wasn’t long downspouts in this case.

Thanks,

Have you thought about adding a light covering of kudzu, such as on this bridge:

You put so much effort into this bridge, it would be a shame to cover it.

Ah, but it just must have a little Kudzu beginning to wind its way up and down and around.

All my videos the last three or four years are IPhone. I just got a little bolder for that has a threaded insert that screws to a tripod. I’m going to try it later today and see how it goes.
