The dirt road came out really nice, I really like how 'dusty' it looks. Scenery overall is well worth the effort, I'd say.

What do you you use for the earth/dirt base? I was going to try earth colored grout but you can only get 25lbs sacks from HD, and probably only need a few ounces. I ordered a few different earth-tone ballasts from Arizona Rock and Minerals but those some where in the mail system yet,and I'm hoping the texture is fine enough for N scale.

The dirt is the finest stuff they sell at Scenic Express. I could have used dirt from the back yard, but I didn't want to screen it down.

Chris, what brand/blend are you using for the ballast? That's the exact look I want for my N scale NYC layout.

It is N scale ballast from Smith & Sons from Scenic Express, but for HO I mixed in a bunch of other stuff with it to bulk it up.

Chris,
   I have been following your progress along with Dave's with interest. What a great job you are both doing.
I have just dumped all my latest N Scale purchases (sold my big layout just over a year ago) and have decided to switch to HOn3 after starting in N in 1969.
Been lucky enough to snag a Blackstone K27, long caboose and several Rail Line HOn3 kits.
No track plan as yet that will come when we move into our new home later this year.
This is my first attempt at grab irons on a Rail line box car.

Got around to my Lawndale RR 2-8-0. The pilot is a new 3D piece. I've made about 4 revisions and now I'm happy.  :facepalm:


And them I spent some time weathering it.



Where is the tender? Thanks for asking. I haven't even started building it yet. Double  :facepalm: :facepalm:

Yeah. I got the trunk lid smoothed out. The dings in the roof are filled. Started sanding the fenders today.

Oh you mean the layout. I haven't been in the basement since May other than washing clothes.

So I built a new "company store" for Mill Creek.



Was wondering if someone can help me with a sign for the front. Either above or below the top 3 windows I'd like to have:
Mill Creek Coal & Coke Company

In a similar font to these:



The space is 2.732" x 0.313" Since it would be a black and white sign I'm able to print it out myself.
