Got a little further:
Got to start messing around with the stone wall base.

Sprayed tan camo paint then an ink wash along with a brown wash. Just a base color will go with a tan/cream and red/brown trim like on the right.

Was so worried I wouldn't like the color
, but I like it
And I plan to set it on the layout with the same 3/4 view as the photo. So I didn't detail the back. I did slap some windows up on the other side though since there will be a dam/waterfall there I may look around the corner to sneak a peek.
I may try to carve the stone wall out of balsa foam...
Oh and I 3D printed the 2 center doors just because I could.

Wowsers. So glad it's cold out or you'd be working on the VW instead of THIS.

Awesome work. Like the color and the way you weathered it.

Love the structure and colors, and the nail details are a nice touch. Exquisite!

Well more searching found a 1905 map that shows the mill.
The bad thing is that the railroad didn't reach it. The railroad ended at the quarry.
Yellow is the railroad
Red is the quarry
Green is the flour mill
Right next to the mill was (still is) a covered bridge:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_Mills_Covered_Bridge
The driveway to the right leads to a house that is where the mill was:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5336895,-80.9636624,3a,75y,232.89h,76.04t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sLF9zk6N1rKp3aHA-52hu4g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
None of this is stopping me from laying a siding to the mill
You can make out a curved dam on the creek.
EDIT: Turns out this branch to the quarry was 8.5 miles long and was removed in 1897. The line it branches off of was standard gauged in 1900.

Doing some rock with with rubber rocks from Cripplebush, blending in with Sculptamold. Will look much better once painted.
In this corner the track will enter a rock canyon to blend into the backdrop without a tunnel.
Right on the other side of the backdrop there will be an overpass behind the company store.
Oh and see that spur that runs off the layouts edge at the front left... that will be a little 1x2' shelf with the spur going to the flour mill. I knew there was a reason to make that turnout function

I always blend my fascia into the scenery and run the rock castings right to the edge. Went to go get some 1/8" hardboard and it is -5 degrees out.
Ain't nobody got time for that!
3 days ago it was -1, next day it was 45, now it is -5. My gravel driveway is a sheet of ice.

If I hold the phone just right I can get just about the whole layout in. I got all the rocks blended in and painted. I took a spray can of Rustoleum tan camo to the paint desk and they matched it to make a quart. And I airbrushed the track "tie brown".
And the hole in the wall worked out. Enough light shows through that is doesn't create a dark spot.
Not going to finish coloring the rocks till I get the fascias up and blended.

Ah, but wait till the trees!
And scenicing all those vertical surfaces when I can't tip the layout on it's side.
Tried to go get hardboard. Actually found two 1x8 sheets in the garage, but they were stacked behind a bunch of 2x4's that were stacked behind the VW. Plus my hands were numb in seconds. Going to have to wait a few days.
