Did the buyer ever pick up the JD?

Progress was made:

Test fitting structures...

I made Rico 26" wide and made the opposite side 22" wide, therefore giving Rico ample shelf width without sacrificing any aisle width.  Here it looks like I'll be able to fit Rico with no compression in width or length.

Dreaming...

A couple quick notes...  Everything is painted/primed white to 1) seal the wood, 2) make wiring under the layout easier on the eyes, and 3) brighten the room.  However, on top of the shelf will be laminated 4" of extruded foam (10" on the yet-to-be-build peninsula featuring Bridge 45A at the Ophir Loop) and the fascia will be a nice neutral brown-gray:

Sorry for my confusion on the build - CM was N - Love this. Not usually a fan of these replicas, but I'm a fan of (HO) Jack Burgess and YV and it's minimalist, but detailed look. This will become one of my new faves for a well represented region and railroad.

Yep, that's one of the curses of doing the RGS.  It's been done to death.  But it's popular enough that there is plenty of product out there to do it right.  More and more I see the narrow gauge segment of the hobby recovering from the whimsical stuff back to its uber-realistic roots.  My hope is to get this one right.

Built legs for the peninsula and started laminating foam to the shelves for the Rio Grande Southern but took a break from that today to build the first of three trestles:

And people wonder why I am modeling the Pacific Electric...

A very neat prototype!

As for me and the RGS, I really don't care how often it's been done...it's been my passion for decades, even through all those years of modeling Pennsy.

I totally understand,  the RGS was a great road, and I wouldn't mind modeling a branch pulled by 40

Do you plan on any modeled terrain below track level -- the base of the solid benchwork? Or are you stacking foam to build the track on?

Stacking foam.  So for most of the layout it'll be a 4" depth (hence the 4" trestle) but on the peninsula where there will be some cliffside running plus one of the big RGS trestles (Bridge 45A approaching Ophir) the depth is 10".
