Very cool!  I would be lost without my complete home workshop.  I'm amazed how guys like you can do all that modeling in some far away hotel room.

Between the Mt. Dew and the fact that it's a H.I. Express, anything's possible. 8)

Thanks pete! Im definitely limited on what i can do in the road. The hardest part is getting to plan what projects to take with me and fill the entire week from Monday to Monday.

Narrowminded- that's the one pop I've had this week. Usually my trash cans full to the vein with water bottles. Also, im a signal construction foreman and us scheduled folk don't get to stay at nice places like holiday inns like our supervision lol.

Otto, i work out of the same tackle box at home that i take on the road just for that purpose. My tools always go back so i have them on the road.

Well Adam,  you're more organized than I am.
You're right about the pilot, it needs to be tighter. Believe it or not, the crappy Bachmann Northern (at least the ones I have and decommissioned 30 years ago) have a pretty nice pilots with room for a 605 coupler. Maybe easier than scratchbuilding something....

That just may be the best bash of the year  :facepalm:. It wouldn't be a bad thing for Kato to follow your lead . Did the AT&SF have variations of this ? This could be a great theme for them " North American Northerns " . Plenty of them in all sorts of roads . Very well done Sir .

Did they ever! All 80" drivers...
Just a very basic summary, ATSF 4-8-4's 101 :D

3751 class, 14 engines in all, original ATSF 4-8-4's, rebuilt multiple times, with multiple iterations. 20K gal. square tenders added. Boiler and loco length smaller than the following classes. Famous 3751 the class engine.

3765 class, 11 engines, first of the "big boilers", asymmetrical front end with compressors on left side only. Heavy rods

3776 class, 10 engines, 24,500 gal. long 52' tender, symmetrical double compressor front end. 3783 and 3784 delivered with light weight rods. All locos rebuilt with light weight rods and roller bearings. Big locos at 496,000 pounds!

2900 class, 30 engines, virtually identical to the 3776 class but heavier because of WWII material restrictions.  511,000 pounds, engine and tender. Arguably the  biggest, meanest, heaviest, fastest 4-8-4's on the planet.
The last survivor is the 2926 being restored in Albaquerque.

Take that Mr. Kato  :D

 Rich, thank you for the compliment but I'm sure there will be better bashes this year,  its pretty early! Also, as otto replied, kato could make more money using the same mech, and hopefully they will and we just don't know it. They easily outsell a K4!  :o
I doubt kato does it though,  the most glamorous American railroad doesn't get any love it seems any more.

Ah, it was the elder Mr. Yuji Kato who passed away.  The video featured Mr. Hiroshi Kato - the current president of Kato.
Yes, he left us quite a legacy.
