Yes, an arched roof has been on our fill in projects list.   :D   I defiantly want to do a 4 wheeled truck to add to the line, on these coaches it seems proper to have that option.

Joe

Definitely something that should be taken into consideration when designing the new car.  Depending on the road you can find either 4- or 6-wheel trucks in use so both should be included in the planning so that modelers will be able to choose the appropriate truck for their road.

Another option may be to consider arched roofs since some roads did rebuild their coaches with such though I would suspect that this is better left to those who are able to do rapid prototyping.  Can't remember whom it was but someone recently mentioned that he would be offering arched roofs for some of the MT cars already in production.
in my civvies here.  I only represent my grandmothers home made Mac and Cheese on Railwire.

Didn't know you had to be defiant about it. Those bosses :D
I don't need any single window coaches, but enjoy the excitement about them. Oh wait, didn't UP own some...?

Joe, enough with all of this east coast junk already. They've gotten enough items over the last couple years. This is the single window coach you need to make! They're just extra large single windows!

Looking at the Branchline pages you would be able to paint up the NYC car for:
NYC
SOU
PM
GN 2 schemes
B&A
MP
GM&O
C&O
P&LE
CP
CCC&STL
L&N 2 schemes
NH
EL
SBD
NKP
D&H
ERIE   ;)
Lackawanna
Burlington
Rutland
SP&S
MILW
probably many more.

How does that compare to the other suggestions?

To be fair you can paint any paint scheme on any car ;)

But it looks like I would only have to fill in a few windows to make  a pretty reasonably accurate CP 1457-1468 for my Soo train so I'm sold  :D

I would think that

Branchline was rather liberal in their adoptions of painting and lettering schemes, but I would agree that the NYC prototype, in lieu of Erie or L&N, would be "close enough" for my purposes.  However, if MT already has something loaded up in their CAD software that is similar (CB&Q or ?), I'll probably be happy with that too.

Adam- I'll take a couple, but at this stage, I have enough M&R sides (plus a couple Pecos River cars). that what I really need is a roof with the proper hatches and ductwork (or just hatches and ductwork), and a detail kit with the under body SEAC parts.  With all the things coming out in RP and resin, I can't figure out how no one has done steam ejector AC.  Could also use under body parts for SEAC, although I've faked it a couple times with various appropriately sized bits from old ALM core kits.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Yup. From a manufacturing standpoint in getting the most bang for the buck, the New York Central prototype makes the most sense.

I sure would like to see some heavyweights in Seaboard Air Line (SAL) or Atlantic Coast Line (ACL), but I know that Joe has previously
mentioned low demand.  :(  I'm surprised that there aren't more people modeling through cars and Florida trains.

Looking at the Branchline pages you would be able to paint up the NYC car for:

The following is the list when checked against the prototype diagrams.  Red listings did not have anything close to this design...

NYC, P&LE, CCC&STL, B&A; Rutland (717 - 727; based on NYC design)
SOU
GN 2 schemes
MP

GM&O (207, 208, ex-Mobile & Ohio coaches, 207 - 216 series; others modernized, heavily altered, by AC&F 1946)
C&O, PM
CP
L&N 2 schemes (shallow bathroom windows)

NH
SBD  Never Seaboard System... guess you mean SAL
NKP
D&H

ERIE, EL   ;)  (includes two coaches rebuilt as diner - lounge cars, 2996, 2999, original series unknown; to EL 750, 753; others modernized)
Lackawanna
Burlington
SP&S
MILW

(Had to make CP and Burlington red because of differences in the car's window arrangement...) B (

Still a number of roads that can be represented by the NYC prototype, but like others mentioned Branchline liked applying paint schemes for roads that didn't have something close to the model.  Not an unreasonable thing for MT to also follow suit.

How far off are the red cars?  This C&O car looks pretty close:

D&H cars look like they replaced the windows:

That's a better "hit" list than all of the current MTL non-sleeper models, most of which are prototypical only for one or two roads.  And five of these roads already are represented on MTL heavyweights.

This C&O car looks pretty close:...

Not really.  The windows are one straight row with no extra spacing between the restroom windows.  A couple of roads had cars like these but not in nearly the numbers of those who had cars similar to the NYC prototype.

Quote
D&H cars look like they replaced the windows:...

Modernized, I believe, by ACF who also built some early lightweight cars.  The problem here is simply numbers with the D&H coaches having 21 windows in the coach section instead of 20 on the NYC prototype.  One other thing that makes the D&H cars stand out is the portholes in the vestibule doors not exactly an easy thing to represent appropriately.  If the NYC car is the one that is modeled some modelers may consider the car close enough with its 20 windows in the coach section.

Quote
How far off are the red cars?

Not even close... some of these roads actually were heavy users of paired window coaches which, accuracy wise, would knock them out of contention.  Ironically if MT had decided to model the Branchline paired window coach it would have fit on a number of roads.  Some others had more modern single windowed coaches which had wider windows to match the more generous seating space arrangement resulting in fewer windows.  These were built in the late-30s.
