The Mike McGrattan Memorial Train visited the Dusty Junction today in 1956   
Entering the line through the wye at North Junction out of Denver


Proceeded onto the main crossing Molly creek

As it passed through town even Ms. Debbie came out to pay her respects

this complete memorial for Mike is simply a wonderful thing that each person has contributed to
looking through each post, it is just such a touching experience
and the way each has presented the train, with context and added items, is most excellent

This tribute, unprecedented and unscripted, is turning into an excellent endeavor. Everyone is doing what they feel is their best to participate, with no pre-conditions or "guidelines" on how. When events turn into traditions a certain set of requirements get locked in, and a lot of the creativity and honesty goes out of them. Since nobody's ever really done this before (at least in N scale as far as I can remember), it is a bright fresh expression of effort. I'm really impressed. Creativity and honesty, unrestricted. I'm glad I was part of it.

This has been wonderful to watch and read and I'm sure Mike is getting the biggest kick out of it. One other thing that I could see coming out of this is someone should put together an article taking shots from the layouts and putting it into some of the railroad magazines we all read. This way more of us get to know this wonderful friend we had and lost.

Thank you for your positive comments; they make all the effort worthwhile.  With respect to an article, I am definitely on top of that and have asked everyone to ensure that they save the full resolution versions of their photographs. 

Our train has now completed the "western states" portion of its U.S. tour, and is now on its way to Illinois.  Well done everyone so far!

The Mike McGrattan Memorial Train reached NKP rails today, and traveled east, past the NKP yard and roundhouse at Bellevue, through Lorain, past National Tube in South Lorain, through Rocky River, and across the Rocky River Viaduct.  Because of the importance of this train, the NKP assigned Berkshire 765, normally used only in fast freight service, as the power, and added NKP coach 102 for business executives to travel with the train.  I managed to pace the train on this route, and caught some photos at the various locations:

Oh, Wow, that is just terrific! I especially like the addition of the home road coach to accommodate the the local officials. Well done!

The Mike McGrattan Memorial Train arrived in Springfield, IL this weekend.  It deserved better than my mediocre cell phone photos so my friend, John Evans, did the photography as he has done on all of the articles we have done for MR, RMC, etc.

The train passes river bluffs before reaching the prairie flatlands.






The train arrives at a generic Central Illinois county seat with the Courthouse dome in the background on the town square.



And soon departs en route to Chicago.



The train passes the engine house at The Milwaukee Road's Bensenville yards west of Chicago.



And finally passes below the Sears Tower and the Chicago skyline.



Next stop, Macomb, Michigan.
