Been working on a scratch-built Penn Central painted enginehouse...





I'm sure the PC didn't paint any of their enginehouse's in PC green & white, but I wanted a building on the layout to scream PC.

On my pike, the PRR pulled the turntable and knocked down the roundhouse in '53 (the actual year they did pull the turntable and removed some of the stalls in their Olean engine terminal).

The PRR wanted an enginehouse and put up a corrugated metal structure (similar to the many oil & gas industry buildings that populated this part of the country in the 40's & 50's) which was repainted from PRR to PC colors in '69.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Needless to say the project isn't finished, but I'm getting close.

In PA during the early 70's there were very much "PC Green" structures, but maybe never quite that neat.   If they had a weatherbeaten, worn-out building, they'd come by with a spray truck of PC green and bomb the entire thing - top to bottom - with a spray coat of jade green paint.   Windows didn't get masked, and roof edges were oversprayed.   Grass and foundations got painted.   And if there was a side of the building not visible to the public? NO PAINT FOR YOU.

Mike, I've got a great shot of the Wellsboro Jct. station (Tioga Co) with the roof edges to weeds spray painted Jade Green, side visible to US Rt. 15 only, in the above scheme, about 1974.

I'd like to get a coat of paint on it and see how it looks.  This is my first real experience with HDA.  If that turns out okay, I can look at releasing them.

I'm hoping ESMC will still do this model as it will surely be nicer than this, but that project seems to have fallen off the radar for now.  I'll probably still check with Bryan before I do anything.

It hasn't fallen off the radar, but for various reasons out of my control at the moment it's in limbo, so I would proceed with your rendition.  I'm personally in the same boat, whether to scratchbuild additional ones or wait until I can move forward on either a craftsman kit or injection molded.

Looks like a lot of fine sanding will be required but otherwise they look pretty good.

Pretty clever!  I have never considered milling while taking a dump, but I can see that it is possible using this fine piece of equipment.

I've had a project in mind for several years now and decided to take the plunge: scratching the Caliente, CA Post Office.  I thought about an article, but as I progressed I realized I just am not organized enough to write about a scratchbuilding project.  Anyway, some pictures.
