I finally finished up the Finer Iron and Metal Co. This was a fun kit, and I added a really basic interior and lighting, and it can be seen through the open windows. Since pics tell the story, here they are...It isn't sitting level in the pics because it's sitting on the lighting wiring....

Looks great. What lights did you use on either side of the front doors?

Oh man, I'm kicking myself for not getting one of those when I had the chance.

That looks killer man.

Those are Woodland Scenics Just Plug lights. I chose their brand over other options for the simplicity. The ability to adjust the intensity is really handy for keeping the brightness "in scale".

Thanks Ed!. Yes, you should kick yourself for not picking one up! :P The laser engraving is incredibly well done. I also wanted to light the Sugar Beet refinery too, but I had to add too much extra bracing to make that happen(it is much larger than most laser cut structures).

I also have this shot of it..If I ever expand the layout to the right I will try to include this structure and hopefully connect to a yard somehow!..I do not currently have enough space :(

What was this building used for? It apparently has loading docks, for railcars?

I don't know, the tracks did curve right next to it, but I don't know if there was ever more than one track here. This was the connection between the yard and the canal trackage, and would probably be kept clear for movements..

Well, the layout is now six months old, give or take, I was preparing bricks at this time in April..So, here's a couple of snapshots, and a shot of my workbench, which has accumulated too many projects, so I will be focusing on getting some of those done in the near future, which will slow down layout progress. Some of the main future goals is to get a better lighting situation going, to get a better power pack(walkaround) or switch to DCC, and acquire some Middlesex Mfg kits to kitbash a building for the right side, to finally be able to add some street track, which I'm looking forward to having, if not doing :scared:

I somehow missed this thread until now.  What a great prototype and rendition you have created.  When I lived in Amherst we were told not to visit Holyoke, but I clearly missed a near area.

Yes, they are MEC plywood side cabooses. They were designed by TXCAVGR, Brian F, his Shapeways shop is CN Shops. Years ago when he was still doing North Country Models I had asked for these, it seems he had the project started before deciding to close up shop, and he drew up these using the info he had gathered. My only complaint so far is the lack of end door windows on the peaked roof version. I will definitely show the build process once I get started, I still need to pick up some donor MT steel cabooses for the frames.

So, after posting a photo of projects on my workbench, I dove in and finished some cars not even in the picture!...But these are 2 less projects needing doing....

Both were modeled after prototype photos, though the green car I had to change the numbers a bit due to the fact that Microscale only provided 2 number "7"s..The PC style numbers are also a bit too large, but that's what I had available! The green car started as an undec, the FGE car was factory painted. Anywho, here they are....

Thanks guys!. The former E.L. car is one of several I hope to do, they got some interesting patch jobs, with quite a bit of variation between cars.

The former PC car came about because I had to airbrush the patches on the EL car, and didn't want to fire up the airbrush just for that, so into the stash of undecs I went, the car wasn't actually a PS-1, but is as close as I think I can get in model form...
