And here we see the BLI Centipedes in their native state: static.

Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

One word: drawbar

 :D

Slightly more seriously, what about some dummy couplers that would stick together nice and tight, but separate when needed?

Like the Intermountain EMD F-unit plastic drawbar. Works like a charm.

Eric:  The Precision Masters Unimates were designed for exactly that.  They came with either a T-shank or a flat shank with two mounting holes.  It it should be possible to make them fit almost anything with some brass rod and a hole drilled in the shank.

I believe someone, Fox Valley maybe, is making these again, and if not, they seem to be fairly common as old stock.

I replaced the drawbar by Unimates immediately when I got the Centipedes.
Using them with DC is almost impossible, so I need the Unimates to lift them off the rails   :oops:   Handling a set coupled with drawbars needs more hands than I have.

@chicken45 ,

I've got Unimates in the toolbox that you're welcome to, if you would like to try them.  I use them on my IM F-units to close the coupling distance.

For those not privy to the conversation, @chicken45 and I were discussing the situation on Friday night. I suggested the drawbar, but he doesn't want to go to all the effort of removing a whole screw every time he wants to pack them up. Some teasing may or may not have occurred.
