Thanks!  The seller's name is dkmtech. I wonder of this is the Donald Malnick (spelling?) who used to produce custom decals (he had ads in Model Railroader mag.).

Perhaps . I think Don Manlick was in Manitowoc Wisconsin though , not Pennsylvania.

:?
if Hershey leased the from URTC then it should be close.
how does the N car compare to the HO ex-Branchline car ?
  if its close,then use it.

I copied this from some site, I don't know if this accurate. But what does this tell you? Thanks

"Built in May, 1927 by AC&F as part of a 50-car fleet leased to Hershey Chocolate Company in October, 1931."

My W&LG original set of decals was by him , those I liked the best .

The exact photo to the one in the initial post of this thread is in the book Billboard Refrigerator Cars (photo is from E. Kaminski's collection).  As far as I can tell there are roof hatches on the roof.

The car was built by AC&F in May, 1927 and was fitted with new roof before entering Hershey service in Oct, 1931.  It was painted chocolate brown with aluminum lettering.  It was in the HERX 1000-1049 series of cars.

Going by the reputation of the book's authors I would say that this info is accurate.

I guess I would still have to create my own decal if I wanted aluminum lettering.

Way back in my HO days I tried to get my UP loco lettering to look the correct aluminum instead of white which aint right . I sprayed them with a grimy black wash , After a few coats , the white looked like dirty aluminum . Now the question is , would Hershey allow their billboard cars to look anything but whistle clean , and if the car was painted a correct brown , it wouldn't be anymore .

Well, I like my billboard cars in like-new condition - like the ones which come from the Micro Trains factory.  So for me silver (not white) lettering would be ideal. After all, they just sit in a nice display case.  ;)

The description says that the lettering is silver. I'll let you know how my car turns out, I have applied silver lettering before on some war bonds North Shore interurbans and there is clearly a difference between the silver and the white.

I have a few undecorated Atlas cars I will use.

Randy,  if you have the decal in-hand, you should be able to easily tell is the lettering is silver (metallic sheen) or plain white.  Or maybe it is imitation aluminum color which is simply a non-metallic light gray?

I haven't got them yet.

I did get the A&P set Wednesday and they look pretty good too. I'm waiting for a pair of Bachmann tank cars for them.

I like having unique cars that are not commonly seen on layouts or in collections.

Excellent, if you can, post pics when done. I'm waiting on the car to arrive and I'm ordering the decals today. Is this the brown your going for? True color 165.

Yes, I was thinking of this IC brown. I always liked it anyhow...

I think the roof was painted silver also, should be a nice looking car.

How sure are you about the silver roof? As I have no idea.
