Malt unloading: I think you nailed it.

For the parking lot, I think BLMA made some of those little bumper things. Other than, that, just go with what you do for any other concrete or asphalt surface.

@Ed Kapuscinski - I decided to lay down the styrene sheets that I have and came up with this:

I think the area left of the building might see some ground foam for the time being.

Good Evening,

After some thought, I felt like I needed a change with my team track area because I was getting bored with this area.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

I also wanted to drop Northern Power and Light from my layout and include Walthers Central Beverage as a new industry (distribution center/warehouse of some sorts).  I came up with a rough footprint template of Central Beverage, and I'm deciding to go with this change on my layout.

This will allow me to add Central Beverage and continue to keep a designated team track in use on the layout.  I'll have to reapply some ballast for the parking lot, but it's something that I wanted to change up.

Thanks,
Adam

I was in the neighborhood of Nicholas Smith Trains this morning, and I picked up Walthers Central Beverage.  I only have the roof details to add, but this is what it looks like on the layout.

I thought that I would also add a current state of the layout picture of how things are shaping out right now.  This layout is going on 10 years old, and it amazes me how I can still fine tune this layout and still be working on the scenery  :D

Are you going to paint it, like, you know...the bricks?

@wazzou - Good question!  I'm not sure what colors I would use for the office.  Thoughts??

Thanks,
Adam

I usually start by spraying a gray primer to give some tooth for brush painting a color like PollyScale Zinc Chromate Primer or some Mineral Red and/or Boxcar Red.  I've had good luck dusting some White Flour in the mortar joints and brushing off the excess with a soft brush and then following that up with a spray of Dull Cote to seal.
Just make it look like bricks.  Experiment a little.  You can always fix it.

Good Morning,

I decided to remove some of the ground foam from the team track area and added some gravel and street lights to make it look somewhat like a team track area.

I also added an auto rack to my roster because I have read somewhere of auto racks being delivered to team tracks for rental/government fleet vehicles.  Unfortunately, that is where my money to buy supplies for painting Central Beverage went

Thanks,
Adam

How would vehicles be unloaded then?

Here's an idea - just put one at the end of the track.

You'll need to create a fairly large concrete pad behind the track. But if it's a team track, why not extend the concrete around the length of the track? Then you can spot some bulkhead and regular flats for unloading. No centerbeams though, they would require access to both sides.

@jmarley76 Thanks for pointing that out!  That is something that I will have to order from them.  I just think that it would be nice to have an additional industry on the team track.  I did find the "prototype" for such an instance on the North Shore Railroad.  They have a ramp at the Saegers Siding in Muncy, PA.  It looks like they are using flatcars to load/unload postal vehicles.

Adam,

Grumman used to manufacture postal vehicles at their plant on the opposite side of the tracks. Not sure if anyone is using the facility now, it was served by Conrail at the time.

Good Morning,

It's been a while since I posted on my layout and I'm at a point where I need to refresh my layout.  I currently have Code 65 True-Track, and I would like to change it to Code 55 track.  I am trying to come up with a cost associated with replacing the existing track and whether I also want to also start fresh by laying a new foam board over the existing one?  On a side note, I have fully embraced having my layout be dual-era because I can run a SD40-2 on my layout (I researched it and NS will run them on locals out of Allentown)  :D

Thanks,

Adam
