New Products from Wutter Vehicles and Details!

I figured since I've been busy setting up shop on Shapeways for a while, I would share some of my new products here on Railwire with everyone.

First up, a very common and ubiquitous sight.... the warehouse forklift, available in N and HO scales and in 1,2,3 and 5 packs with wide or narrow forks.

http://shpws.me/I6iq

Next up, a set of six pairs of Southern Pacific light clusters, in as built configuration. Also available separately in flat and angled back versions if only one type of cluster is desired.

Also available is a set of six pairs of Southern Pacific light cluster, in rebuilt configuration, perfect for second hand leasers, ex-SP units and many other locomotives with SP descent. Also available separately in flat and angled back versions if only one type of cluster is desired.

http://shpws.me/K4mB

Finally, EMD exhaust silencers for both Kato and Intermountain units, perfect for tunnel motors and 80's era EMDs.

Thanks for looking, more to come soon!

And as always, suggestions are taken for any parts that are unavailable.

Very nice Wutter - thank you for posting those here.  The future is indeed now.

One item I would like to see, which would be ideal for FUD or FXD, is a set of antenna domes, something like the ones on the cab of this Dash-9:

http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=140806

(alas, login needed to access this).   Kato makes the square dome for their AC4400's, but it is not available as a separate part, and the long thin domes are not made at all.  (Their GEVO antenna - which is available as a part - is smaller than the AC4400 antenna.)  PTC equipment would also be a natural item to consider offering.

Nice work.  I am guessing that a Yale forklift was essentially the same in terms of appearance for a long timespan, but what is the timeframe for the forklifts?  Will they be available without the rollcage for those of us with a "pre-OSHA" layout?

(My general ignorance on Shapeways being what it is) If I understand correctly, "Extreme detail" has finer detail than "Ultra detail" in Shapeways-ese, English language notwithstanding,  is this correct?

Looks like an excellent model in any case.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Hi Gary,

Is there anyway you can grab some base dimensions of the squarish AC4400 antenna? I know the basic shape of the square dome you are looking for but if its a part you are looking for I'd like to get it as close as possible. I can look into the PTC antenna arrays but because of 3D printing thickness limitations they may end up being stacked rectangles with surface details and the Sinclair antennas added seperately with etched metal details. I currently have a round GPS dome available on my store but I would be happy to add more antenna types.

Yes, Frosted Extreme Detail (FXD) has finer detail than Frosted Ultra Detail (FUD); here is an example of what the forklifts look like fresh out of the box in FXD:

And here is a picture of a finished sample from Ngineer with my forklift and his palletboxes:

I'm actually not very sure of the specific time frame of the forklift, although if I were to hazard a guess I would say mid 80s to present day based on the design.
If you have a specific forklift from a time period you model without a rollcage that you want to see made, I'd be happy to see what I can do.

I'll add my cry for PTC antenna farms.  Maybe Matt at FVM will make them available separately - he's got them coming one of these days on some UP GEVOs...but he generally doesn't offer details.

Actually, I was looking to see if I could clip off the cage from the model you show in the picture.  If you could produce a version without the overhead protection cage, that would be better.  I think it would be popular with transition era modelers.

It looks a lot like the forklift I drove for a couple weeks back in the mid-60s, and it was an old clunker at that time.  I think your model would be good as far back as about 1950 .  Back before OSHA, operators were expected to have the common sense not to lift things way over their heads and then knock them off the forks to drop on their heads.  Few wore helmets or hard hats, either.

Next up, these have been available for a while but I figured I would show them for anyone interested:

Winterization hatches for GP units:

http://shpws.me/JEh0

Winterization hatches for SD units:

http://shpws.me/K17y

And non-Dynamic Brake hatches for SD40-2 replacements.

http://shpws.me/JYRQ

After doing some research on PTC arrays, I found a large variation of arrays with different numbers of smaller domes and bumps on the surface of the array, so it will take a while to get many different versions up for sale. If anyone has a specific and detailed picture of an array that is needed, I can entertain some modifications.

Here is the first, and probably least cluttered version.

4X: http://shpws.me/K5je
8X: http://shpws.me/K5m0

Etched sinclair antennas, lift rings and simulated conduit will need to be added separately as they would be too fragile printed.

Comments? Suggestions?

Hows this for cageless:

For transition era, would there be an LPG tank on the rear or would it most likely have been gasoline? Because I can also easily do a version with no LPG tank.

No. Compressed fuel systems were developed in the 50s but didn't really become popular until forklift emissions were focused on and the cylindar safety issues were resolved.  I think the backboards on the lift mechanisms weren't oft-used through the 60s either.

Those look great, and very much resemble the lift I worked with.  It had a propane tank, because this was about 1966 and the machine was used indoors around assembly workers to take their output to the loading dock.

I don't know the answer about propane vs. gasoline in the mid-50s, though.  I was still in grammar school then and not in a position to see.  I would suspect gasoline was much more common than propane back then, but I am saying that from impression, not from knowledge.

The cage was the bigger irritant, but I would prefer mine to have no propane tank as well.  When can I order a pack of these?

According to Yale, who should know, LPG (propane) and diesel forklifts by their company were introduced in 1950.  Looks like many if not most before that were electric (at least Yale forklifts)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

I have now uploaded both versions of the backdated forklift, with LPG tank and without LPG tank. When I get some time later on I will work on the earlier KGP series Yale.
