I have one long overdue project in mind which would be eligible, but at the pace I build, I doubt that I'll make the deadline.

I'm still trying to figure out what I should wear for the project.

Are you an open or a covered hopper?  :)

Disassembled and shot with dullcoat. I wonder why MTL did not use a screw to hold on the body mounted couplers

:tommann: , is that a photo of the 1:1 car or the model?  If it is the model then we might as well all just stop working and give you the prize.  :)

Now you have to follow your own rules tell us what you used...until the book is done  :tommann:

Looks like salt and oils. Anything else? How much time did you wait for the oil to dry before streaking? Do you streak with water or alcohol?

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

I have an 8-pack of Micro Trains PRR H31 hoppers, so I decided one of them would be my entry.

Here's the clean model:

The inspiration comes from this 2-bay hopper in Morning Sun's Pennsy Steam Years 2:

I decided to keep it simple.  Weathering was done with acrylic craft paints (thinned to water consistency) and layers of Dullcote.  The colors I used were black, "esspresso bean," and "country twill (a tan that I used to cut the black a bit on the final coat).  I masked the data with painter's tape to represent restencil.

I used @davefoxx's idea for the coal, using black play sand from Hobby Lobby:

It's not much, but I figured I'd throw it out there.  I expect it'll be blown away by everyone else's work.

Now I have 7 more MTL hoppers to do...
