I guess I'll give it a shot. I got an Atlas 2-bay that I don't use anyhow.

Can I just use Woodland Scenics dry transfers for the lettering or do I have to match the lettering in the photo?

You didn't choose a passenger steam loco  for the subject.

What about adding details like wire grabs or changing out wheels sets etc...?  Or is this supposed to be just weathering?

You can do whatever you want, just as long has you discuss your progress and "create" a hopper that looks like the prototype photo you select.  Since the group will vote on the winner, I imagine that extra details will give someone the edge.

Okay, thanks.

Not looking for an edge, rather the opposite.  I wouldn't want to be 'disqualified' in voter's minds for adding a few details since it's not really part of the contest.

Since I am not entering because the pics were lost I thought I would drift off course long enough to show what I would have entered. The car is Z scale (MTL) and I have another one to build but not till late winter.

This one involves kitbashing grain hoppers. What I am doing is taking two of these ,

and making one of these.

The finished car is a CSX car weathered to death (almost)

Ok, now you will be returned to your regularly scheduled thread.

I'll throw my hat in the ring. I'll have to do some renumbering of my BN car but this should be a fun one.

I removed some the factory numbers to ready it for renumbering. I'll gloss it tonight so it's ready for numbering tomorrow.

What about larger scales? They are naturally more detailed. Is that potentially unfair?
