Where did you get the trolley poles?  Or are they HO "finescale" poles?

Hello nkalanga,

The poles were scratch built & soldered together using various diameter K&S or Detail Associates brass wire. Used several B/W PE prototype photos to estimate height & distance between poles. Could not duplicate the hangers, trolley wire or pull offs in N-scale & also meet the time constraint deadline for Chantilly 2014 so I fudged that detail. I could have used thinner diameter phosphor bronze wire BUT did not have any available.... It looked good to me and the PE trolley was the main focus so I settled for close enough.

These are the products available on Shapeways?

Yes they are .

There is one fundamental difference between my models and the gorgeous PE model on the top of the thread. None of my models run.

Why is it that every time I see these I'm reminded of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. :)

Awesome job. I just don't understand why there aren't more PE trolleys available (in RTR or kit form). PE was HUGE and now it's just been forgotten... :?

Very nice, and nicely displayed, but see below.

As of the photo displayed today (August 31), the lead truck seems to be derailed.  If you were able to re-photograph it, it would look even better.

There is a Baldwin freight motor....
http://www.shapeways.com/product/6VE95B7TS/n-scale-baldwin-westinghouse-steeplecab?li=marketplace&optionId=43861989

I've almost started starting drawing a class 'D' motor for the WCF&N a couple times, but I'm doubting it could pull more than itself so I've relegated it to some sort of brass etching project that could provide some weight.

I've anyone builds one of these, I'd love to know how it performs.

The interurbans on the other hand, are just a matter of time (like trying to find some  :P).

I was thinking about using a Bachmann 44 tonner as a chassis for the weight

That's a very nice "Ten Car'. I've always looked at the Suydam PE brass when I'm in Ca and thought "Yeah, that would be cool..." then I forget about it...  :D

160Pennsy:   Thank you, and nice looking ones they are, but not exactly what I was asking.  I was wondering about the "trolley poles" on the car, the power collectors, not the line poles!

If you look at the photo of the construction-details sheet in the initial post of this thread it states that the trolley poles are from Miniatures by Eric.

Thank you for the clarification Pete. There is a difference between Line Pole & Trolley Pole. Sorry for any confusion I may have started. Here's the MBE catalog link for a pair of NTP1 working Pacific Electric poles - $25.00 that are still available for purchase along with two different versions of working poles...(when I say they're working that means they are sprung & can be used to collect power from "live" overhead and transfer it to the drive mechanism / motor inside the shell. All of MBE's poles are constructed from cast brass, soldered steel wire and miniature springs..IMHO they are beautifully made & fully functional...miniature works of art and well worth the small cost!)

Mark,

My bad...Thanks for spotting this and for your comment on the display. I was working fast & thought all the wheels were on the track. Will post updated photos and possibly video if time permits.
